There’s a game children around the world have played for centuries that kids still enjoy today. I’d be surprised if anyone reading this article hasn’t played it too! What is it? It’s the simple game of freeze tag. As a matter of fact, in parts of Europe, the children actually pretend that when a person is tagged, the touch carries some form of contagion; leprosy, flees, or even the plague. All from just a touch!

I’m pretty sure as you read this, the now infamous Coronavirus has crossed your mind, the latest contagion to not only hit the United States but the world as well. Folks are no longer shaking hands or even giving knuckle bumps for fear of coming into contact with someone who’s contagious, and then it’s “Tag – you’ve got it.”

And interestingly enough, it seems that toilet paper somehow helps calm these fears as it’s the number one item flying off store shelves! Why? Because people are being moved by fear! Does it make sense, or does anyone really need a five year supply of TP in their bathroom closet? I doubt it, but apparently, it’s comforting just to know it’s there. Maybe we can all expect lots of TP for Christmas this year.

My sweet husband ran to the grocery store last week with a shortlist of things to buy – one of which was noodles. He came home totally empty-handed. Not even noodles? Really? No noodles? Just two weeks ago, there were millions of noodles – people really eat that many noodles? Apparently so!

But here’s the thing: faith moves God – fear moves Satan. God wants us to think like Him and Satan wants us to think like him. I find it extremely interesting that the word “corona” means crown. Literally, it’s the “crown virus.” So I have to wonder, who would want to crown us with a virus-like this which brings so much fear? It’s none other than Satan himself – the author of death, fear and destruction!!

But what if, instead of being moved by fear, we were moved by faith? Instead of being contagious with panic, alarm, and dread, we were contagious with hope, peace and optimism. But how do we do that? How do we tag people with the good stuff?

For starters, we need to be spiritually minded first. Romans 8:6 tells us outright, “To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace!” Be safe, wash your hands, stay home if you are sick, etc., but at the same time, don’t leave guidance and direction from the Lord out of your daily life and decisions.

Secondly, we need to pray because God promised if we did, He would “heal our land.” (II Chron 7:14) The Message translation reads, “…and I will restore their land to health.” Quite a promise!

And lastly, crown Jesus Lord and Savior of your life because Psalm 91:9-10 tells us this: “If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you, no plague will come near your home.”

As Warren Wiersbe puts it: “The safest place in all the world is in the will of God, and the safest protection in all the world is the name of God.” Kinda says it all, doesn’t it?!
