Homicide – August 17, 2020

On Monday, August 17, 2020, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded to the 17000 block of Canyon Creek Court in the unincorporated area of Lake Hills to investigate a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they located an adult male, later identified as Carl Greg Small, 58 years old, standing in the front yard with a firearm. Small dropped the firearm and was taken into custody without further incident. During a search of the residence, deputies located Richard Mondragon, 53 years old, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies began life saving measures and Mondragon was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Small was booked into jail for the murder of Mondragon.  This is an active investigation and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Dickey of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or Investigator Merrill at the Jurupa Valley Station at (951) 955-2600.
