Riverside Research received two recognitions for preferred business practices in January 2022: a Gallagher Best-in-Class Benchmarking Report listing and an Ohio Success Award. These recognitions reflect employee satisfaction as well as community-minded contributions, such as providing academic scholarships, fundraising contributions to local and national charitable organizations, and ongoing activities such as blood drives.

The 2021 Best-in-Class title from Gallagher reflects the results of the Gallagher 2021 Benefits Strategy & Benchmarking Survey. Only 11 percent of the 4,000 organizations that participated in the analysis received the prestigious Best-in-Class designation.

With a focus on ideal organizational structure, the Best-in-Class title specifically examined Riverside Research’s competency in communications strategies, healthcare benefits, use of HR technology, rate of turnover for full-time employees, the overall benefits package offered, and focus on employee wellbeing.

The Ohio Success Award recognizes our community impact and growth. This is the fourth iteration of Ohio Business Magazine’s Ohio Success Awards. The Ohio business community will celebrate Riverside Research and other award winners at an event in spring. Winners will also appear in the Spring 2022 edition of Ohio Business Magazine.

Riverside Research is proud to accept the Ohio Success Award and the 2021 Best-in-Class designation. This progress reflects the not-for-profit’s focus on recognition as a Destination Company for top talent in the defense, research, and not-for profit spaces.

Matteu (Matt) D. Daniels, Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) Regional Manager, has been awarded one of this year’s honorable mentions by the Association for Community Affiliated plans (ACAP). Nominated for the Leadership in Advocacy Award by Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), Daniels was recognized for his decade-long partnership and immense dedication to providing healthcare access to underserved populations in the community.

In a nomination letter to ACAP, Jarrod McNaughton, IEHP chief executive officer, commended Daniels for being a tireless advocate in the support and promotion of Medicaid and the populations it serves in Riverside County, including low-income individuals, seniors and persons with a disability, and those with significant health needs. “In order for a community-based health plan to thrive, partners like Matt are essential,” said McNaughton. “Matt continues to fight with passion and purpose to ensure care and support for more than 870,000 Medicaid eligible individuals in Riverside County.

Matt’s efforts illustrate what it means to care for your neighbors. We look forward to continued collaboration in our efforts to heal and inspire the human spirit and are thrilled ACAP has recognized him in this way.” ACAP, an association comprised of 78 not-for-profit, community-based Safety Net Health Plans across the country, awards one individual each year for their advocacy of Medicaid and other safety net health programs.

Due to the overwhelming number of outstanding nominations, ACAP has included honorable mentions in this year’s Annual ACAP CEO Summit. “Thank you, IEHP for the nomination and to ACAP for recognizing me and the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) with this honorable mention,” said Daniels. “It is the mission of Riverside County DPSS to serve the residents of Riverside County and to establish partnerships with other agencies, such as IEHP, with the goal of exceptional service delivery.

There are many wonderful, dedicated people in Riverside County DPSS who work hard to ensure our partnerships are a success and that our residents receive the healthcare benefits they need.” In his nomination letter, McNaughton also highlighted several projects and key initiatives Daniels and his team collaborated with the health plan on—noting these projects were the first of their kind.

Projects included the development and implementation of processes to help Members keep their benefits, collaboration to reinstate more than 1,000 Riverside Medicaid residents who were mistakenly disenrolled during the pandemic, and efforts to better support various Member groups by leveraging data. “We’re truly inspired by Matt and his dedication to his community and are proud of him for receiving this award,” said Thomas Pham, IEHP vice president of strategy.

“The insight Matt brings to the table is genuine, comes from the heart and has really made a difference, especially in the meaningful and urgent work we’ve done to address the on-going public health crisis.” In recognition of his honorable mention, Daniels was presented with a plaque and has been invited to virtually attend this year’s Annual ACAP CEO Summit in June.

(Award from Rotary Club of Menifee)

The Rotary Club of Menifee honored Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) Interim Vice President of Instruction Dr. Jeremy Brown with its Vocational Service Award.

The award, given at the club’s annual “Mayor’s Ball” in October, recognizes non-Rotarian individuals who have made a significant impact using their vocation to promote ethics and service in the community.

When Brown arrived at MSJC as a music instructor at the Menifee Valley Campus, he reached out to musicians in the Menifee area to join the MSJC Menifee Jazz Ensemble. Community performances and engagement with that ensemble led to further collaboration that has resulted in joint events such as the Fall Festival, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Menifee Music & Arts Festival at the college’s Menifee Valley Campus.

“I was surprised and humbled to receive this award in a city that is doing such exciting things to actively build community and add value for its residents,” Brown said. “The level of collaboration we have achieved with Menifee would not be possible without the collective will of a host of MSJC employees, city leaders, and service organizations to build a stronger relationship. It’s exciting to see projects I have worked on since the planning stage come to fruition and continue year to year.

“One of the most inspiring aspects of my position is working with all the cities and communities we serve to meet their needs and create opportunities for students,” he said. “We are doing great things, together, for the people of our communities.”

John Tribelhorn Sr., who nominated Brown for the honor, said “Jeremy is not just talented, but he’s also a fine person. It’s great to see someone like him get recognition for the things he does that most don’t see.”

Mt. San Jacinto College serves about 27,000 students in a district covering 1,700 square miles from the San Gorgonio Pass to Temecula, with campuses in San Jacinto, Menifee, Banning and Temecula.

In May 2019, Mt. San Jacinto College awarded a record-breaking 3,338 degrees and certificates to 1,723 graduates.

Have a wonderful day and please follow MSJC on social media – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Award-winner Jim Hitt takes over as President from outgoing DVWG legend, Lynne Spreen

“A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit”

                                                                                              -Richard Bach

Anyone who knows Lynne Spreen knows how true are the words above from author Richard Bach. Spreen’s 5 books are testimony to her tenacity as a writer. If you’re good…and Lynne Spreen is very good, the audience never sees you sweat; they never see the work that goes into the finished product. While the public may know Lynne Spreen from her novels, they don’t know the Lynne Spreen who has lovingly, tirelessly served as President of the Diamond Valley Writers Guild (DVWG) for four years.

Lynne Spreen steps down as of November 1, with the redoubtable Jim Hitt taking over after a unanimous vote this past Saturday. Jim (when you’re lucky enough to know him, you get to call him Jim) is the award-winning author of “Carny,” and several other books. He has a new book, from his own imprint-JB Books-titled “The Shadows,” coming out soon. Jim’s wife Vicki, writing under her own full name of Vicki Allen-Hitt also has a novel out, a first novel, which debuted this week titled “Family Matters.”

Taking over as DVWG Treasurer will be JoLynne Buehring.

Of her tenure as President, Spreen said,”We have this wonderful literary magazine, Straitjackets, we have a website, we have a nice active Facebook page…and we’ve got this (meeting) where we meet on the fourth Saturday of the month. But I’m humbled to see this: to see you guys all coming together. So I applaud you. Thank you for making this such a good run.”

Those who know Lynne Spreen know that she is the one who deserves the applause.

There was little question as to whom the group should name to succeed Lynne Spreen, and everyone in the room voted for and applauded Jim Hitt as the new President. Jim was humbled by the vote of confidence. “I’m taking this over from a legend, Lynne Spreen. This all started about 25 years ago with Ray Strait (HSJ Chronicle senior writer and author of nearly 40 books) when I first joined him, and now it’s come full circle.”

Those of us blessed enough to know the truly talented, soft-spoken leader that is Jim Hitt know that his will be a fruitful, measured and educational tenure.

We are pleased and proud to announce that at some later date in the near future, Jim will once again write a column for this newspaper.
