LAKE ELSINORE, CA —A group of Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and AMR medics made a special delivery Saturday morning, successfully delivering a baby girl while en route to a Southwest Riverside County hospital.

Just after 6 a.m., a 911 caller pulled over to the side of Highway 74, saying they were in active labor, Cal Fire spokesperson Karina Espinoza told Patch.

Firefighters from the Good Hope station arrived to assist the expectant mom and loaded the expectant mother into the ambulance to take her to the hospital for the birth.

The baby, however, decided it was time to be born about ten minutes into the drive, and once they reached the I-15 Freeway.

As they approached Lake Elsinore, just after 6:30 a.m., medics from Station 9, along with AMR 485, successfully delivered the healthy baby girl in the back of the ambulance, according to Espinoza.

This little one had her own timeline, and the delivery was smooth, with no complications,” according to Espinoza.

Fire Captain James Worthington, FAE/Paramedic Corey Stearns and FAE/Paramedic Ryan Wafford will never forget this day, they said.

Both mom and her newborn daughter were in excellent condition upon arrival at the hospital. It was not immediately known what would be on the child’s birth certificate for “address of delivery.” Still, one social media commenter guessed it would read: “Somewhere on the side of Highway 74, Lake Elsinore.”

Another Riverside County resident added that her grandson, now 10, was also a paramedic delivery. “He is still in contact with his paramedic angel who delivered him,” she wrote.

Hundreds more wrote their congratulations to the Engine 9 crew, Cal Fire/Riverside County and all Cal Fire Firefighters who could enjoy another bright spot of good news in Southern California.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A man was shot and killed in Perris Monday by a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy.

The shooting took place just after 8 a.m. at a residence in the 3300 block of Albillo Loop as deputies were conducting a probation compliance check.

Several people were in the home’s backyard. One of the men provided false identifying information to deputies and tried to walk away, refusing commands to stop, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies used a taser on the man, but it was “ineffective,” the sheriff’s office reported.

The man continued to walk away and pulled out a handgun, prompting a deputy to fire on him, the sheriff’s office reported.

It’s not clear how many rounds hit the man.

Deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, according to the sheriff’s office. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died. His identity was not released and it’s not clear whether he was on probation.

According to sheriff’s office policy, the unnamed deputy involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave. A member of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will lead an investigation into the fatal shooting.

No deputies were injured during the incident.

The third edition of PS HomeBoys, Pride Under the Pines Pride Festival, is set to go live in two weeks on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in Idyllwild, CA, with non-stop electronic dance music and dancing from 12- 9 pm. The full day of fabulous entertainment will feature two musical headliners, hilarious comedians, and superstar drag divas who are all planning on rocking the outdoor stage. Last year’s event, which totaled over 1500 guests from across Southern California, enjoyed the picturesque city of Idyllwild and its rustic roots, fresh mountain air, and beautiful pine trees, among fellow LGBTQ+ family and friends of all ages.

Pride Under The Pines Event Hostess, the ever-amazing, drag superstar, Anita Rose shared, “I am so excited to be hosting this year’s event in beautiful Idyllwild and it’s going to be even bigger and better than ever! On behalf of our entire entourage of Dragtastic Divas- ALL of us are looking forward to coming together…under one sky… to show our support for one another while we demonstrate our pride at this beautiful venue. Not only will this event provide an inclusive space for our LGBTQ+ family to come together once again to show the love of our queer community but it will highlight how drag entertainers, and our trans brothers – sisters are truly beautiful artists!”

To kick off this year’s festivities Team Pride Under The Pines and the event’s host venue The Rustic Theatre are Inviting guests to a Free Welcome Soiree Hosted by actor Emrhys Cooper which will feature a collaboration with the brilliant minds behind Idyllwild Pictures & Tribute Studio. Welcome Soiree will be held in The Rustic Theatre’s lobby, theatre, and outdoor patio, on Friday, October 6th from 7-8 pm and will be followed by a Live taping from 8-9 pm of Pride & Prejudice docu-series, brought to you by Idyllwild Pictures with guest appearances by actor/writer Donal Brophy and award-winning queer filmmaker Billy Clift.

(CA Green Ribbon School)

On April 22, 2020, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced that 25 schools and eight districts earned 2020 California Green Ribbon Schools awards, a list that includes San Jacinto Unified’s Mountain View High School.

The California Green Ribbon Schools Award uses the applications submitted for the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools program that reviews environmental excellence and demonstrated achievement under three categories known as pillars: Pillar I, reduce environmental impact and costs; Pillar II, improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff; and Pillar III, provide effective environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.

Mountain View High School earned ‘silver level’ achievement, which is an overall score of 65.0 – 74.9% of the three pillars from concrete achievement using quantitative measures, wherever possible. “We are honored that the state of California is recognizing our school and San Jacinto USD for the commitment we all have to providing our students opportunities to live a more sustainable life,” said Principal Ken Swanson. “Our programs, policies and projects are in place to educate and involve our students and our community members so we can all make this world a better place,” he explained.

The campus’ flourishing aquaponics program began in 2014, with five classroom systems and the installation of a weather station ( http://www.sanjacintoweather.com/). In 2016, the sustainable living science center came to life with the addition of two large outdoor aquaponics systems; solar, wind and bicycle power; raised-bed farming; a drought tolerant demonstration garden; and composting and worm farming.

Riverside County Office of Education selected Mountain View High’s Aquaponics & Sustainable Living program as a 2017 Model of Academic Excellence and Innovation. California Department of Education awarded the campus as a 2018 Model Continuation High School.
