The latest season of Tribute Mania at the Historic Hemet Theatre wraps up on December 7th with a Tribute to Styx by “Rockin’ The Paradise.”

“Rockin’ The Paradise” will lead Styx fans on a journey back in time to experience what a classic Styx concert was really like; the chemistry, the passion, the energy… with note-for-note accuracy of a legendary Styx show, up close and personal.

The members of “Rockin’ The Paradise” are Jim Vignato (lead vocals), Michael Baranski (lead guitar & vocals), Mark Robert Boals (bass guitar & vocals), Fred Bensi (keyboard), and Carmen Speizele (drums & vocals).

After this show, only two concerts remain on the 2019 schedule: A tribute to Keith Urban (12/13) and a special holiday show by Stone Soul (12/21) performing a “Stone Soul Christmas” with some of rock and roll’s favorite holiday classics.

Next year’s first season has been announced, and it includes: tributes to Elton John by Kenny Metcalf (January 4), The Carpenters by Sally Olson & Ned Mills (January 18), Tina Turner by Debby Holiday (February 1), Marvin Gaye by Jackie’s Boy (February 22), The Bee Gees by Bee Gees Gold (3/7), Tom Petty by Petty and the Heartshakers (March 21), Metallica by Masters of Puppets (April 4) and Abba by Abba Fab (April 18).

On Saturday, August 31st, the Historic Hemet Theatre kicked off Season Three of the Tribute Mania Concert Series with a high-energy Tribute to Madonna featuring the LA-based band BLONDE AMBITION.

Erin Stone was stunning in her leather bustier and fishnet shirt, twirling and dancing across the stage. Fans in the audience cheered at the top of their lungs from the first notes of “Dress You Up” to the last notes of “Like a Prayer.” Dozens filled the dance floor, some just for a closer look at the blonde bombshell with the angelic voice.

After the show, the verdict was unanimous – the crowd and the band had a great time sharing the iconic music of the Queen of Pop. 

Meanwhile, tickets for the next three shows are selling fast. Tributes to The Beach Boys (9/14), Brooks & Dunn (9/20), and The Eagles are likely to be the next sold-out performances at Hemet’s vintage movie house.

Then in October, the Tribute Mania Concert Series continues with tributes to The Beatles (10/12), Buddy Holly & the Legends of Rock & Roll (10/26), Huey Lewis & the News (11/2), The Blues Brothers (11/23), and Styx (12/7).

The country music Friday Nite Live Series also continues with tributes to Brooks & Dunn (9/20), Roy Orbison (10/4), Reba McEntire (11/8) and Keith Urban (12/13).

On Saturday, September 14th, the Historic Hemet Theatre will welcome back to the stage one of its most requested tributes – Southern California’s top tribute to The Beach Boys, Surf’s Up.

In 1961, The Beach Boys released their debut single “Surfin,” sparking the creation of an entire genre of music called “beach sound” and inspiring a decade of music around the California lifestyle. The band remains one of the most critically acclaimed, commercially successful and influential bands of all time, selling over 100 million records. 

Classic Beach Boys songs include “Surfin’ USA,” “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Fun, Fun, Fun.” ” I Get Around,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “California Girls,” “Barbara Ann,” “Good Vibrations,” “Sloop John B,” and so many more.

Similar to the Beach Boys, Surf’s Up is a family band.  Brothers Donny & Danny Goldberg, their father Don Goldberg Sr. and cousin Denny Hardwick have been performing together for 25 years. Their sibling harmonies capture the authentic blend of the Beach Boys with fantastic precision. Not just another tribute band, these veterans truly bring the magical “Sound of Summer” to the stage.

Surf’s Up was one of the first tribute bands to perform at the reopened Historic Hemet Theatre. Since then, the group has made several return appearances, but have not performed at HHT since 2017. With help from the Soboba Foundation, the 2019 Tribute Mania Concert Series will enjoy a third season run from September through December. As a Presenting Sponsor, the philanthropic arm of the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians will help bring some talented tribute bands to the theater at 216 E. Florida Ave. in Hemet.

A unanimous decision by Soboba Foundation’s board to support the concert series is due to its meaningful addition to the Downtown Hemet Historic District. Its popularity brings much awareness to the nearly 100-year-old theater and efforts by a group of dedicated volunteers to restore it to its glory days.

Dondi Silvas, Vice President of the Soboba Foundation, feels it is important to support hometown businesses and organizations.

“Our valley has changed in so many ways that it just feels good to help preserve some of our past,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to go somewhere here in town to enjoy a great date night. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the volunteers are very friendly.”

Silvas, who lives at the Soboba Reservation, has attended several concerts in the past and has enjoyed them all.

“The tribute bands are really good and they are all great performers,” she said. “I have many favorites, but the Bruno Mars tribute band was so amazing my boyfriend Myles and I were hooked. The dance floor was crowded and the people that attended were there for a great time.”

In 2013, The Historic Hemet Theatre Foundation took over the operation of the movie house that was built in 1921, making it one of the oldest in the country according to Susan Carrier, CEO and board president for the nonprofit.

After the purchase was completed in 2018, the organization started the building’s multi-million-dollar renovation. With plans to update the building, inside and out, the group wants to keep as much of the original art deco flair from the 1930s that the theater possesses through replication.

The nonprofit’s 100-plus volunteers are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the community with three key impacts: history preservation of the theater, cultural enrichment through performing arts and educational programming and economic revitalization of Hemet’s downtown district. 

The concert series kicks off with a tribute to The Beach Boys courtesy of Surf’s Up and continues twice a month with tributes to The Eagles, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, Huey Lewis, Blues Brothers, Styx and ending with a Stone Soul Christmas show on Dec. 21.

All Saturday shows will start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15. The theater’s box office is open Mon. through Fri. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for presale tickets, which provide a $3 discount per ticket.
