RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Eligible graduating high schoolers in Riverside County will soon be offered direct admission to California State University, including Cal State San Bernardino for the fall 20225 term, officials announced this week.

Immediate and conditional admission will be offered to high school seniors who are on track to meet college preparatory courses before they have even started their application process.

The pilot, launched in partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education and the CSU, expects to admit 12,000 to 10 different CSU campuses by way of a brochure that has been mailed to their homes.

Then, students must use CaliforniaColleges.edu to select their preferred CSU campus and acceptance letters will be sent directly by the universities.

“We want students to know that the door to college opportunity is open to them, and to help relieve some of the stress and uncertainty about applying for college,” said April Grommo, the university system’s vice chancellor of enrollment. “Riverside County is an excellent location for this first-ever program for the CSU, as it is ethnically and economically representative of the diversity of California, and many of the students the CSU is so proud to serve.”

Here are the campuses available for the pilot:

San Bernardino

Channel Islands

Chico

East Bay

Humboldt

Maritime Academy

Monterey Bay

San Francisco

San Marcos

Sonoma.

When students receive admittance, they must continue to meet A-G requirements to graduate high school. Once the official acceptance letter is granted by their university of choice, students should confirm their intent to enroll by the given campus deadline.

Here’s how students can apply for financial aid: Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) no later than the deadline, which has always been March 2. But, the sooner the better.

“As one of the fastest growing regions in California, the need for college-educated professionals will continue to soar, and this partnership will remove barriers to higher education, welcoming more college-ready students to the CSU system through this innovative direct admission program,” said Edwin Gomez, Riverside County superintendent of schools.

Brian C. Joondeph | The American Thinker

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are rallying cries of Democrats and the left, spawning an entire industry dedicated to achieving these goals, regardless of necessity, practicality, fairness, or cost.

Diversity simply implies differences, an innate feature of humans as no two people look, act, or think the same. Here is a definition from one such organization whose goal is that we all march to the diversity, equity, and inclusion drumbeat. Notice that most characteristics cannot be discriminated against by law, not hiring or firing someone over their race or religion, for example. At the bottom of the list is a surprising focus on diversity, namely political perspective.

This means that companies and institutions that proudly practice diversity and virtue signal over their wokeness, should themselves be leading the charge of making sure that their organizations seek diversity in not only gender and sexual orientation, but also political perspective. How are the woke companies and institutions doing? Are they walking the diversity walk or simply talking the talk? The College Fix answered this question, “Zero Republican professors found across 33 departments at seven universities.” What are these universities? “The Ohio State University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of Georgia, Cornell University, University of Oklahoma and the University of Alaska-Anchorage.”

These are all large elite institutions, a mix of public and private, and even a school from the uber-woke Ivy League. Taking their analysis further, “The College Fix identified just 61 Republican professors across 65 departments at seven universities. In contrast, 667 professors were identified as Democrat based on their political party registration or voting history in party primaries.”

How is that for diversity of political perspective? It’s not the university locations either, “Six of the seven states analyzed are primarily Republican, with the exception of New York. Yet, all universities showed a strong Democratic tilt among their faculty.” These school are far left islands, as are most major universities, even if surrounded by conservatives outside their ivy-covered walls. “When broken into Democrat and Republican, 92 percent of professors identify as Democrat and only 8 percent identify as Republican.

That amounts to Democrat professors outnumbering Republican professors by a ratio of 11 to 1.” Yet these schools allocate enormous resources toward diversity. Cornell, for example, has a website devoted to diversity and inclusion, including restroom and facilities guidelines and supplier diversity.

But there is no section emphasizing political diversity, hence Cornell and other similar universities only selectively creating diversity, becoming politically homogenous. Ohio State has a similarly flashy website emphasizing “inclusive excellence and racial justice” but no acknowledgement of political perspective diversity. American universities have always leaned left, but it has become more pronounced in recent decades, as research from the Higher Education Research Institute found, “In 1989-1990, when HERI first fielded this survey, 42% of faculty identified as being on the left, 40% were moderate, and another 18% were on the right. This is not a normal curve – it is a clear lean to the left.” Flashing forward, “Almost three decades later in 2016-2017, HERI found that 60% of the faculty identified as either far left or liberal compared to just 12% being conservative or far right.

In 1989, the liberal: conservative ratio of faculty was 2.3. So in less than 30 years the ratio of liberal identifying faculty to conservative faculty had more than doubled to 5.” Another study from a Brooklyn College professor found, “Democrats dominate most fields. In religion, the ratio of Democrats to Republicans is 70 to 1. In music, it is 33 to 1. In biology, it is 21 to 1. In philosophy, history and psychology, it is 17 to 1. In political science, it is 8 to 1.”

This analysis of liberal-arts colleges ranked highly by US News and World Report, “Found no field in which Republicans are more numerous than Democrats.” It’s not only academic institutions not walking the diversity walk, but also tech companies. These are the companies quick to pressure customers or even entire states that for example feel it is inappropriate for young girls to use a men’s bathroom, all in the name of tolerance and diversity.

But when it comes to political diversity, these companies fall short and feel no need to practice this type of diversity themselves. Here is a short list of woke tech companies and the percent of their employees’ political donations going toward Democrats. Netflix 98%, Nvidia 93%, Adobe 93%, IBM 90% Salesforce 89%, Alphabet (Google) 88%, Microsoft 85%, Apple 84%. From a 10:1 to an 81 ratio, there is no diversity of political perspective in big tech.

One gem in the recent Twitter Files reveal was that Twitter employees contributed to Democrats over 96% in 2018, increasing to virtually 100% in 2022. How is that for political diversity? Twitter was likely, at least pre-Musk, staffed by representatives of most of the 72 genders, making them gender diverse. But for politics, only one perspective is tolerated.

Those who screech “diversity” the loudest, are the least diverse when it comes to that one pesky aspect of diversity, namely “political perspective”. While they gush over how progressive it is that America has an Assistant Secretary of Health and an Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition who are both grown men who dress as women, within their own companies, only one political viewpoint is encouraged or tolerated.

One can argue against the entire concept of “diversity”, where people are categorized and promoted based on superficial characteristics rather than following the words of Martin Luther King, Jr, “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Imagine how much richer educational and corporate institutions would be with diversity extending to differing political viewpoints. And at the least giving credibility to other aspects of diversity, allowing the woke virtue signalers to practice what they preach.

Democrats of Hemet-San Jacinto

The natural, physical world around us truly amazes me! As I observe the plants, animals and natural elements, I am struck by the diversity I see. I have yet to think of something that there is only ONE of. While some species of plants and animals have the same internal structures or organs, their outer characteristics vary dramatically. Think of the many colors and shapes of flowers, trees, cats, dogs, insects, horses, birds, fish, dolphins etc. Even water is hydrogen and oxygen and can be found in 3 different states (liquid, solid, gas). A look even further into the atom shows us 3 smaller particles–neutrons, protons and electrons–working together and coordinating their different functions.

Wow!

What does all this variety mean? To me, all nature’s variety means that diversity is the fundamental way of our world.

It’s as natural as day and night (again an example of diversity), or breathing in and out (more diversity!).

But the world’s diversity is not just the “way it is.” Diversity also seems to play an important role in the health of our living world. Studies have shown that the close familial relationships in the marriages of the European royal families is a primary cause of specific diseases, such as hemophilia.

Also, the discovery of a pride of lions that was geographically isolated from other lion prides, gave birth to very weak cubs that were not surviving at the usual rate for healthy lion prides.

But when this pride was found, people took steps to re-introduce contact with lions from other, different prides, and healthy cubs were again surviving at the usual rate.

As human beings, we are also included within the natural world’s diversity. We can see that while people throughout the world have the same internal structures and organs, there is great variety in our external appearance, size, talents and thoughts. Even the uniqueness of human fingerprints and DNA are perfect examples of how people everywhere are part of the world’s diversity.

Diversity then is part of the world that provides all of us with benefits of beauty, stimulating variety and physical health. Rather than fearing and avoiding diversity, I believe we are better off appreciating it and learning to live peacefully within the diversity around us. The question then for all humankind is, how do we live peacefully within our diverse world? For me, it begins with the understanding that people everywhere are part of the same world, and all of us have something to offer each other.

In every culture around our amazing world, I see families wanting to protect their children, as well as providing a home with food for all their loved ones. I also see people everywhere protecting nature, creating art and solving problems. So as a human race, our needs and desires seem to be very similar, yet our ways of meeting those needs and desires may vary.

Another similarity I see around me is the comfort people receive from human companionship as well as from spiritual beliefs. Throughout human history, people have felt the need to connect together in some way with a higher power. Ideas of how this connection is made differ greatly, as seen by the different religions throughout the world. Yet, a closer look at the major religions in the world reveals some wonderful similarities in the guidance and teachings they provide to their followers. For example, 13 of the major religions have their own specific wording for what I’ve grown up to know as “The Golden Rule.” The wording may be different, but the belief is the same. Here are the different ways The Golden Rule is worded in major religions around the world, as shown on The Golden Rule Poster by the Scarboro Mission:

• Baha’I Faith: Lay not on any soul a load that you would not wish to be laid upon you, and desire not for anyone the things you would not desire for yourself. (Baha’su’llah, Gleanings)

• Buddhism: Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. (The Buddha, Idama-Varga 5:18)

• Christianity: In everything, do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the law and the prophets. (Jesus, (Matthew 7:12)

• Confucianism: One word which sums up the basis of all good conduct..loving-kindness. Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself. (Confucius, Analects 15:23)

• Hinduism: This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you. (Mahabharata 5:1517)

• Islam: Not one of you truly believes until you wish for others what you wish for yourself. (The Prophet Muhammad, Hadith)

• Jainism: One should treat all creatures in the world as one would like to be treated. (Mahavina, Sutrakritanga)

• Judaism: What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour. This is the whole Torah; all the rest is commentary. (Hillel, Talmud, Shabbat 31a)

• Native Spirituality: We are as much alive as we keep the earth alive. (Chief Dan George)

• Sikhism: I am a stranger to no one; and no one is a stranger to me. Indeed, I am a friend to all. (Guru Granth Sahib, page 1299)

• Taoism: Regard your neighbour’s gain as your own gain

• Unitarianism: We affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. (Unitarian principle)

• Zoroastrianism: Do not do unto others whatever is injurious to yourself. (Shayast-na-Shayast 13.29)

For me, then, the answer to the question of how diverse people can live together peacefully, involves all of us remembering and living by The Golden Rule–whatever way you choose to word it. Then we can realize more clearly that people everywhere are more alike than we are different and our diversity offers us a variety of experiences to learn about and to enjoy.
