RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA

The ideal volunteer enjoys meeting people, likes to learn new things and is passionate about the environment.

Press Release | County of Riverside

Are you interested in helping the environment? Do you like to compost or recycle? Become an outreach volunteer with the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources and help the earth by helping others become better recyclers and composters.

Outreach volunteers assist with classes or events by interacting with the public, answering questions on outreach programs and distributing materials. The ideal volunteer enjoys meeting people, likes to learn new things and is passionate about the environment. The total volunteer commitment is attendance at the orientation and training meeting and ten hours of volunteer time donated each year while participating in the program. Opportunities to volunteer at classes and events exist across the entire county. Plus, the volunteers select the events, dates and times that work best for them. Bilingual volunteers are needed.

Outreach volunteers can also choose to attend extra training and volunteer more hours to become certified as a master composter. Once a volunteer reaches master composter status, the volunteer is allowed to teach classes on their own or work with schools and community gardens as a composting mentor. Outreach volunteers are integral to the success of recycling and composting programs and are recognized by the County annually for their dedication and hours worked.

Orientation and training is scheduled for Saturday, March 11, from 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. at the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources, 14310 Frederick Street, in Moreno Valley.

For more information or to register, potential outreach volunteers can visit http://www.rcwaste.org/volunteer or call 951-486-3200.

Up for a Spooktacular trip

ALL-AGES FRIGHTFULLY FUN & IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE BRINGS THE ENTIRE HOLIDAY TO LIFE IN ONE BEWITCHED EXPANSIVE PLACE

Experiential Supply | Contributed

The Experiential Supply Co., an innovative experiential productions and attractions company that drives high profile viral destination experiences, and Fever, the global entertainment discovery platform, today announced the return of their groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind Halloween experience: Haunt O’ Ween LA. The fully immersive spooktacular event will take place September 30th-October 31st, 2022 at 6100 Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Woodland Hills, California. Hundreds of thousands of guests are expected to enjoy over 200,000 square feet of the most over-the-top, spooky fun, and authentic Halloween environments in the entire country. The state-of-the-art event also is expanding nationally this season with a new New Jersey location.

All Hallows Eve, by its very nature and origin, has always been communal – bringing people together for the shared escapade of turning fear into fun. Though the past two years have put a wrinkle in that, Haunt O’ Ween’s epic concept is one of the first in the country to put the entire holiday on display in one place – in one very vast and unique format.

Comprised of nine distinctive and wholly immersive worlds, Haunt O’ Ween LA lets guests adventure through the massive grounds with thousands of photo ops, over 25 live character performers that they can engage and interact with, face painting, rides, games, trick-or-treating, dancing, and more. Additionally, there is no time limit, so guests are welcome to stay for hours and enjoy all the ghoulish mayhem.

New attractions for 2022 include: Dance Domes in Beyond The Grave Rave, more rides, games, and even more candy. The organizers have spent almost $1,000,000 on candy this year – all to trick and treat the attendees. Live music, stunt performances, and pumpkin carving will also thrill guests this year.

“We’ve worked very hard this year to put on the country’s largest and most magical Halloween experience for all ages. Over 200,000 square feet of immersive thematics flooded with interactivity, all built on the foundation of Halloween – trick-or-treating, pumpkins, costumes, and spooky fun,” said Jasen Smith, Experiential Supply Founder & Chief Experience Officer. “We cannot wait to welcome thousands of families in the Southern Cal and New Jersey area this year to our massive creation. Make sure to bring your sweet tooth this year!”

Experiential Supply was born in the entertainment industry, putting on large scale experiences for film studios in Hollywood. From themed interactive screenings to multimillion-dollar micro theme parks to promote theatrical releases, the events were always free to attend and promotional in nature. Once the pandemic hit, the company began creating their own experiences – Haunt O’ Ween LA was born in October 2020. The original experience was designed as a drive-thru to make sure kids could still trick or treat. Cars would drive from house to house (that were built by the company) and candy was quite literally dumped into their cars. Similarly crafted events are their Christmas Wonderland and Sugar Rush – a candy-inspired Wonka-like world.

In 2021, Haunt O’ Ween LA transformed into an in-person format, focusing on the engaging nature of Halloween and immersing guests in a myriad of activities. Over 100,000 attendees received over 3,000,000 pieces of candy.

“This is about families having a safe and incredibly fun place to enjoy the holiday and there’s just nothing like it.” adds Smith.

There will be plenty of food and beverages available so that families can enjoy a full night out. Past sponsorships include FX – What We Do in The Shadows, Warner Bros. Pictures The Witches, KiwiCo, Happy Dad Hard Seltzer, Malibu Wines, and The Addams Family 2.

The Haunt O’ Ween LA experience is brought to you by Experiential Supply and Fever, two experts in their fields. Combining their decades of experience, the companies have partnered to curate this innovative production while they continue to conquer and elevate the immersive space together.

Tickets start at $40. Tickets can be purchased at www.hauntoween.com. For a taste of all Haunt O’ Ween LA has to offer, please visit: https://vimeo.com/627608821

About Experiential Supply

Experiential Supply is an award-winning company to which the Hollywood film industry turns when it comes to creating large-scale, immersive experiences for such big budget movies as IT: Chapter 2, Ready Player One, The LEGO Movie, Smallfoot, and more!

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Caregiver Support Program is presenting a month-long series of virtual events and activities celebrating Veterans’ caregivers in recognition of National Family Caregivers Month.

The observance is hosted by VA facilities nationwide with the intent to educate Veteran caregivers about VA programs and services, and to recognize and honor caregivers across the country.

“This year’s theme is #CaregiverAnd, which aims to encourage caregivers to embrace their sense of self, including their identities outside of being caregivers,” said VA Caregiver Support Program Executive Director, Colleen M. Richardson, Psy.D. “We know there are many components that make our caregivers who they are, they have passions beyond caregiving, and we want to recognize them outside of their day-to-day responsibilities.”

This year’s VA virtual NFCM events will emphasize the stories of those who care for and support Veterans and will include discussion panels and networking opportunities with fellow caregivers. Caregivers can check out events happening in their local areas by contacting their Caregiver Support Coordinator.

Rusty Strait | Senior Reporter

When you find a good thing, don’t change it for something not tried and proven. The Hemet American Legion Post 53 has jumped onto the tried and proven way to make money without begging for donations from its community. Tributes. In September, they joined up with Hearts Home Gardens in Hemet to present a tribute to Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles. It was a howling success, attracting more than 200 guests.

Caught up in the family fun, yet romantic atmosphere under the stars with thousands of lights, couples danced to the music and enjoyed every moment as if drifting back to their sock hop high school days. Recapturing memories of our youth is priceless and we all know it.

All at only $60 a plate. Folks, that’s not monopoly money; that’s the real deal. In fact, it was so successful it is being repeated.

On Friday, October 15th, they will be hosting a tribute to Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac in a dual performance. Reservations are urged because 300 places can go fast when you provide something an audience wants. Even though we do not publish until Thursday before, when our stories hit the internet, you can make reservations right up until the last seat is sold. So be aware.

The menu prepared by their chef is as follows:

Roasted Tri-Tip or Chicken Riesling, Garlic Mashed Potatoes,

Honey & Herb Baby Carrots, Tossed Salad & Dressings

3 Alcoholic drinks or sodas & unlimited Coffee, Tea & Lemonade

Entertainment by Julian “Big Daddy” Perez for your dancing pleasure.

Three 50/50 raffles & dance floor with 35,000 lights.

On November 13th, they will be presenting, as a fundraiser, Bonnie Kilroe and The Country Queens; Bonnie is a favorite in the Valley and has performed at the Legion Hall numerous times. This time she will also be at Hearts Home Gardens, located just west of Hemet at 32643 Highway 74. For all tickets, go to: info@alpost53.com or call (951) 658-2436.

It seems every time I write about some upcoming or routine entertainment event in the Valley; somebody says, “I didn’t know that place exists.” Well, folks, the Hemet/San Jacinto area is loaded with venues that feature grade-A entertainment and other avenues of amusement, historical and social interest. Surrounding areas have nothing on our Valley. $60 a person that gives you entertainment plus dinner and drinks is a far better bargain than The Fox in Riverside, where I recently paid $100 for a balcony seat from which I could barely see the stage. The Historical Hemet Theater, which recently celebrated its 100th year anniversary and the Derby Bar and Grille are just two of the local venues that have something going on a weekly basis that will easily fit into your entertainment budget.

It is not my aim to merely hype any specific place, but to boost our community and inform you as to what there is to do around here. The Science Center by Diamond Valley Lake is worth a couple of hours of amazing discovery that will not only entertain but inform you. I’ll bet if you ask a visitor, they will know more about what goes on around our town than most of us will because they take the time to check us out. Just sayin’

It has ever so often been said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Due to the Coronavirus, night-time has been dimmed to a flicker in most musical venues. However, I witnessed something recently when the Derby’s Bar and Grill introduced a special kind of entertainment under the stars as Neil Morrow opened his Piano on the Patio show. Neil and guitarist Travis Daggert caused the stars to shine brighter and toe-tapping a retro form of keeping time.

The joint jumped with the likes of Little Richard, Fats Domino, Billy Joel plus a dash of Sinatra and Reba McIntyre tossed in to spice up the already boiling stew of original rock and then some. Yes, the joint was jumpin’.

Actually, the music was so hot nobody noticed the chill of an October breeze drifting in from the Pacific Ocean. If you like Elvis, The Coasters, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Credence Clearwater or the Eagles you would have had more to digest than at a Thanksgiving Dinner in New England. These two guys are so talented I wondered why I’d never heard of them, so I began asking questions.

Neil began tinkling the ivories at age 4 or 5. His grandmother was a resident of Hemet and when he visited her, his fingers went directly to her upright Piano and there was born a true musician.

He explained, “I knew my fingers were gonna do something more than holding a shovel or pitchfork. L was born to play the Piano. Although I didn’t major in music, I was beginning to be seriously involved with music while in high school.”

After graduation, he began to play with different local bands throughout Orange County. “I was born and raised in Anaheim. I began to be known as the kid on the Piano, so I began to get lots of local gigs.

“I did a lot of work for Disneyland. That’s where I met Scott Bruce who was the official ‘Elvis’ for 15 years. He took me under his wing and taught me a lot about showmanship. I owe him a lot.”

Neil also toured with a group known as, “Cash, Killer and the King.” Johnny, Jerry Lee and Elvis. “We toured the country – the Nevada Clubs, Laughlin, Vegas and Mesquite, expanding into the Midwest and South. They loved our show in Mississippi and Louisiana because they were all born and raised Southerners; he admits to loving Swing and Country. “One of the greatest things about musicians is how they understand each other no matter the genre. I get requests from all generations. Sinatra or Little Richard. I keep tuned to the generational music progression.”

He no longer resides in Orange Country. “I recently moved my family to Menifee, a town nearby to Hemet.”

The COVID virus has restrained musicians in California. Lately, he has been performing in Arizona and Nevada. “Places I’ve had relationships with in the past that are still open. Right now, there are not many entertainment options in California. This is our first time at the Derby and the reception has been awesome. I think it is a great idea this ‘Piano under the stars. It is quite unique. I’m looking forward to coming back in the near future.”

His sidekick, Guitarist Travis Daggert, is a product of nearby Moreno Valley. His father was a Pastor, so his musical education began at age 12 in a church. He’s been working with Neil the past few years and they blend well together.

Everybody in the entertainment business, either artist or club owner, is struggling. Jesse Vivanco, the genial owner of Derby’s, has managed to survive the pandemic so far. Many club owners have shuttered their doors. A few have kept the home fires burning. Just sayin.’

Guitar fans, mark your virtual calendars. Guitar.com, a media leader in all things guitar, has announced a three-day virtual guitar show to be held on October 2-4, 2020.

The show, known as Guitar.com/Live, will feature master classes, keynote speakers, expert discussions, and product showcases, all presented in the Guitar.com Live Hub.

The goal is to connect guitar fans with players, makers, brands, and products in one virtual space. The cancellation of live trade and consumer events in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic has pushed all industries, including the guitar industry, to get creative in how to launch products, communicate with audiences, and drive sales.

The Guitar.com Live show is designed to provide audiences with what they want online – a more meaningful interaction with their favorite instrument makers, artists and brands. “Guitar lovers and players of all stripes are invited to join us as we come together for an epic virtual gathering of music lovers and artists, gear brands and gear heads,” says Chris Vinnicombe, chief editor of Guitar Magazine.

“Audiences can expect to experience a series of incredibly immersive virtual spaces, as well as see the latest gear, hear breaking news firsthand, and get up close (virtually) to their heroes.

It’s also perfectly timed for guitar players to figure out what they might want to get – and give – this holiday season,” says Vinnicombe. “You can expect a truly world-class experience, thanks to launching partners Taylor Guitars, PRS Guitars, Ernie Ball, Music Man and MONO, and the help of best-in-class animators, designers and photographers,” he adds.

The live hub includes three virtual spaces: The Main Stage, The Lounge, and The Showcase. The Main Stage will play host to artist performances, as well as master classes and video podcasts.

In addition, The Lounge will be the place for music industry discussions, gear reviews, and interviews with musicians, guitar makers, and other experts. Finally, the Showcase will be a product-focused venue where top guitar bands will launch products and host Q&A discussions.

The Guitar.com Live show launches with founding partners by Taylor Guitars, PRS Guitars, Ernie Ball, Music Man and MONO. Entry is free during the show, but enthusiasts who want to plan ahead can register for advance updates and exclusive access at guitar.com/live. But wait, there’s more: Early bird pre-registrations will be entered in a lottery for a one-year free subscription to Guitar Magazine.

(Cabaret at the Center)

This time, famous villains will abound

According to the DVAC (Diamond Valley Arts Council) web page, since its founding in 2004, “Advancing the Arts – Creating Community” has been its motto. With DVAC’s move to a new facility at 123 N. Harvard St. in downtown Hemet, that ideal has taken on even greater significance for both the arts and for the community.

As an organization dedicated to promoting awareness of, and greater participation in the arts, locating in downtown Hemet opened the door for greater visibility for DVAC’s mission. It also gives Hemetonians greater choices in what we do and what is available to our community in terms of arts and cultural activities, events and venues. Stop by The Arts Center during the hours of 11:00 am to 5:00 pm any Wednesday through Saturday.

In keeping with our mission, on Saturday, October 26, 2019, “Cabaret at the Center” returns, with doors opening at 7:30 pm, and show-time starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Student tickets are $5 for pre-sale and $10 at the door. As always, members can enter the coupon code online at checkout for your discount. There will be one performance only and advance purchase is highly recommended.

After their sold out show last July, DVAC’s own Harvard Street Theatre Company is thrilled to usher in the holiday season with another fabulous variety show with a villainous theme. Yes famous villains will abound as we feature many talented actors and singers from the Inland Empire. This top notch group will entertain with live musical theatre selections and classic scenes, each with a dark side and humor to spare. Performances from such shows as Mean Girls, Hamilton, The Little Mermaid, Heathers, Bonnie and Clyde, Lucky Stiff, The Wiz, Chicago and many more, will be presented. Performance is one night only on October 26th at 8 pm. Come to the Cabaret!

Music at the Center is a fundraiser for the DVAC and its programs. Guests will also have access to the current gallery exhibition as well as to the concert.
