Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Bryan Whitley

File # T240130056

Details:

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, around 5:44 p.m., deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station were flagged down by citizens regarding a traffic collision at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Barrington Drive, Palm Desert. Deputies responded to the area and located a two-vehicle traffic collision involving a Chrysler 300 and a Toyota Highlander. The driver of the Toyota was found in the driver’s seat unresponsive. Immediate medical care was provided by deputies until relieved by Cal-Fire personnel. A short time later, the driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Chrysler was stopped in the eastbound lane of Country Club Drive at Barrington Drive when the Toyota rear-ended it. It was determined the driver of the Toyota most likely suffered a medical emergency just before the collision. The driver and passenger of the Chrysler were not injured and remained at the scene. At this time, it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor. The decedent’s name is being withheld pending notice to next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact Deputy Kemper at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760–836–1600.

For media inquiries regarding this incident please contact the Media Information Bureau.
