On Sunday February 11, 2024, at 12:42 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the area of Reche Vista Drive and Country Road in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived and located a vehicle which had left the roadway, rolled, and caught fire.  Personnel from Cal Fire extinguished the flames and the accident investigation began. During the investigation, deputies located a subject with obvious signs of death in close proximity to the vehicle.  Based on this crash, road closures were needed on Reche Vista Drive between Country Road and Heacock Street until the completion of the investigation.

The Moreno Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the accident site and assumed the investigation. This case is ongoing and the cause of the crash is unknown at this time.  It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a part in this crash. On December 9, 2023, at 10:51 p.m., deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to Van Buren Boulevard, north of 56th Street, in the city of Jurupa Valley, regarding a major injury hit and run traffic collision involving a vehicle versus a pedestrian. Deputies arrived within minutes and located the victim in the roadway. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Van Buren Boulevard, causing fatal injuries. Following the collision, the vehicle fled the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Van Buren Boulevard from 56th Street to Jurupa Road was closed during the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact Deputy Schwartz at the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station by calling (951) 776-1099.

On August 08, 2023, at 5:21 AM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call of a major injury traffic collision on Alessandro Boulevard east of Graham Street. Deputies, along with paramedics from CalFire, responded within minutes and located a severely injured bicyclist laying in the roadway, which had collided with a black Kia Optima. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. East and westbound lanes of Alessandro Boulevard were closed in the immediate area to safely process the collision but has since reopened. The Moreno Valley Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation.

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, about 6:53 AM, deputies from Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Moreno Valley Station responded to a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Iris Avenue x Perris Boulevard in the city of Moreno Valley.  Deputies arrived within minutes and located a collision involving a black Dodge pickup truck and an unidentified adult male pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and life saving measures were performed. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. It did not appear alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.

The Moreno Valley Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

On June 06, 2023, about 8:14 pm, deputies assigned to the Thermal Station responded to a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Avenue 51 and Chiapas Street in the city of Coachella. Upon their arrival, deputies found two occupants of one vehicle with major injures and began life saving measures; the driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. One of the injured parties succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.

The Coachella Community Action Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The driver of one of the involved vehicles, Antonio Tellez Leon, 38 years of Coachella, showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, violation of probation, felony driving under the influence causing injury, and murder. Leon was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of all east and westbound lanes of Avenue 51 between Frederick Street and Van Buren Street. The roadway has been reopened.

On May 25, 2023, at 3:54 AM, an on-duty Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in the area of Cactus Avenue and Heacock Street in Moreno Valley. The deputy was not operating his vehicle in an emergency response mode at the time of the collision. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid to the pedestrian until paramedics arrived. On February 16, 2023, about 6:35 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision at the intersection of Sumner Ave. and 68th Street, in the city of Eastvale. Deputies arrived on-scene and discovered a male subject laying on the street. Deputies immediately began rendering medical aid, however, despite life-saving efforts, the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Jurupa Valley Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed a black Mercedes-Benz SUV collided with the subject as the subject attempted to cross the street. The vehicle fled the scene but was later apprehended by deputies. Cathie Jiaping Lee was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of 20001 CVC – Hit & Run w/ Injury.

At this time, intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this traffic collision. The investigation will remain ongoing as further information and evidence is received.

Due to the necessary collection of evidence and scene processing, including cleanup, a complete road closure was initiated. The road closures involved the closing of northbound and southbound traffic lanes of Sumner Ave., between 68th Street and Schleisman Road.

On May 20, 2022, at about 12:28 AM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, assigned to the city of Calimesa, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision near Calimesa Boulevard and Cherry Valley Boulevard in the city of Calimesa.

Sheriff’s Accident Investigators responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle left the roadway and collided into a power pole. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The identity of the driver will not be released pending further investigation and the notification to next of kin.

The San Jacinto Stations Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They are conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Currently, it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

During the investigation, Warren Road, between Upperline and Ramona Expressway, was closed in both directions. As of the time of this release, the roadway continues to remain closed for the investigation.
