Coming In One Month: Jared Vanderaa Ready To Silence The Doubters

Two-time MMA Heavyweight Champion Jared Vanderaa is ready to step back into the cage for his next fight for Ringside Promotions at RUF-39. This fight will take place at Twin Arrows Resort & Casino in Arizona. This will be Vanderaa’s first fight in 2020. He had a late December bout last yearend is fresh off a unanimous decision victory against the very durable MMA veteran Tony Lopez. This gives Vanderaa a 10-4 overall record.

At times in his career, it seemed that Vanderaa was knocking on the UFC’s door. A couple of losses due to highly questionable decisions has somewhat put his career in limbo. Vanderaa has stayed active and is training with UFC veteran “Smilin’” Sam Alvey among many others. The judging in MMA has always been questionable. Many experts like Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, Chael Sonnen, Brendan Schaub, and Dominick Cruz have put to question the judges and their lack of qualifications in terms of judging MMA. Jared Vanderaa isn’t the only one who has dealt with this. It’s an epidemic that is systemically plaguing MMA.

Most recently in the UFC, at the UFC246 event, there were a total of three fights where the announcers openly questioned the decisions made by the judges. This was especially true n the main event between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. Many viewers had Reyes winning the fight three rounds to two, including the President/face of the UFC, Dana White, but one judge scored it 4-1 in favor of Jones. Many fighters have to overcome these obstacles and Vanderaa is just one of them. Speaking of the Jones vs Reyes fight, many don’t know that Vanderaa was one of Dominick Reyes’s main training partners for this fight. I’d say, based on Reyes’s performance against Jon Jones, Jared Vanderaa is ready for top tier opponents.

His Opponent at RUF-39 is no rookie to the game: Rich Hale has been around the block in MMA and has been fighting professionally since 2006. He stopped fighting sometime in 2014 and took a leave from the game. Hale has fought in the top organization, Bellator, ten times and has a respectable 22-7-1 record with 18 finishes. He is a dangerous boxer and submission technician. If Vanderaa could win decisively he would be on the way to turning some heads at larger organizations. Vanderaa is currently holding the heavyweight titles for two organizations: Smash Global and EFC.

If he doesn’t get the call from the UFC soon, he may have to defend one of those titles, but there are a few UFC fighters who need a rebound fight and the UFC might be looking to Vanderaa as an option. That’s not to say that he is an easy fight by any means, but he is relatively unknown to the casual viewers. Tai Tuivasa, IIiar Latifi, Juan Adams, Greg Hardy, and Jeff Hughes would all make great opponents for Vanderaa…assuming he can get the finish against Rich Hale next month.

Is The Next Step The UFC For “The Mountain”?

Local Mixed Martial-Arts (MMA) fighter and West Valley Alumni Jared Vanderaa put on a clinic at the most recent smash global event. His opponent was Tony Lopez, a true veteran of the sport with 61 wins and 30 losses on his record. From the moment the first-round bell rang, Vanderaa dominated the fight, landing jabs, leg kicks, and putting together three and four punch combos. Tony Lopez struggled to get anything going in the striking department. He then decided to try to wrestle Vanderaa which was not a great idea. Vanderaa’s MMA base is centered around wrestling and technical boxing while Tony Lopez is a kick-boxer and karate technician. On paper, standing and striking should have been Lopez’s world. When he engaged in wrestling with Vanderaa it looked like Vanderaa was wrestling an amateur. Vanderaa controlled the clinch with ease, landing huge shots. When it went to the ground: Vanderaa was able to pull guard, move into dominant positions, land huge ground and pound shots, and even threaten submissions. Tony Lopez found himself in a top position one time during the fight, late in the second round, but Vanderaa was able to scramble and retain the dominant position.

Jared Vanderaa went on to win the fight via Unanimous Decision. With this win, his record improves to 10-4 and he has to have gained the scout’s attention at the UFC. Vanderaa is now a double heavyweight champion of two different organizations (Evolution Fighting Championship in South Africa & Smash Global). As stated in previous articles, Jared Vanderaa’s record doesn’t fully express how dominant he really is. Two of his losses came from controversial decisions, and one came from a very late submission in a fight that Vanderaa was winning on the cards. He only has suffered one loss that was a clear defeat. It is completely plausible that Vanderaa’s record could be 14-1 and with a record like that, being in the Heavyweight division (which is starting to get old and full of veterans), he would definitely be in the UFC already. If you ask Jared Vanderaa about the controversial losses he will say, “it’s just a part of the game.” and make no excuses.

Steve Orosco (Promoter of Smash Global) had this to say about Jared Vanderaa, “The big guy is now 4-0 in the Smash Global cage. Tony Lopez was a durable opponent and a real test for him. I’m excited to see what’s next for the KING.” Jared Vanderaa will be back at Team Quest Athletic Center/Dan Henderson Athletic Center immediately to start training again. He is looking for a big fight and has teased match ups against legendary Heavyweight Matt Mitrione. The 41-year-old has 13 wins and 7 losses. Matt Mitrione currently is on a two-loss losing streak and a no-contest in his last three fights. He may be looking for a “Tune-Up” fight and Vanderaa would be an ideal opponent for him. They have similar fighting styles. Vanderaa would certainly be an underdog in this fight, mainly because he doesn’t have the notoriety. However if “The Mountain” could shock the world by defeating someone of that caliber. It would show the world that he is ready to compete with the upper echelon of the Heavyweight MMA fighters in both Bellator & UFC.

Future Smash Global Heavy Weight Champion?

With a professional record of 9-4, Jared Vanderaa can now be considered a “veteran” in a sport where most professionals only fight 3 or 4 times. But Jared is on a mission: he wants to hear his name called by legendary announcer Bruce Buffer in the UFC. The sound of Bruce Buffer yelling in the mic, “It’s Time!” keeps Jared moving forward toward his dream even though his professional career has been full of adversity. Despite his professional record being 9-4, Vanderaa is a great fighter and his record doesn’t tell the whole story. Two of the losses were very questionable decisions-one where Vanderaa actually dominated the fight. the other could have gone either way. Vanderaa also fell to a “Kimura” against Richard Odoms in the 5th round of one of the losses. Many of the judges and fans had Vanderaa winning that fight: he just got caught in bad position. It is very reasonable to imagine Jared Vanderaa being a 13-1 fighter, his sole loss coming from Renan Ferreira this past August due to a Triangle Choke in the second round.

Vanderaa was very much in that fight, the two heavyweights swinging away with serious power. Renan just looked to be bigger and faster with a longer reach than Vanderaa. “Stand and Bang” isn’t really what Vanderaa is known for: he is a wrestling & jiu jitsu fighter who possess very technical striking skills. Even though he will go out and brawl with people, that’s just not his game. Jared’s hand speed is amazing for the weight class. He doesn’t have that Walk-off Knockout power like Mark Hunt or Francis Ngannou. which he admits, “I just don’t believe I hit that hard.” I would call Jared Vanderaa’s fighting style the crazy love child of Stipe Miocic & Cain Velasquez. He fights best when he is landing precise jabs and punishing leg kicks, which both serve to set up his ground game where he is comfortable laying on a heavy “Ground and Pound” assault or seeking a submission finish.

Jared will wrap up his hands and strap down the gloves one more time this year, at a Smash Global (December 19th) event in Los Angeles, California. Vanderaa with be staring across the cage at a true, seasoned veteran of the sport: Tony Lopez. Multiple websites have Tony Lopez’s MMA record listed at 64-31. That’s a lot of fights. He is also very active in the Kickboxing circuit. Tony Lopez is best known for his Karate style in the cage, with long legs and kicks that come from weird angles. However, he isn’t scared to throw a punch as he proved when fighting in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Tony Lopez also has a submission arsenal in his back pocket. Out of his 64 wins 52 (26ko/tko & 26 sub) were finishes, with only 12 decisions. It seems that Vanderaa is on the cusp of a UFC contract, especially since the UFC (United Fighting Championship) just welcomed LFA (Legacy Fight Alliance) into their Network. He needs to go into this Smash Global event and win in dominant fashion, get back into LFA and stack a couple wins in a row. Dana White will certainly have his eyes on this Young Heavyweight prospect and now it is his time to shine.

(Jared Vanderaa Headlines)

A Tough Match For Our Hometown Heavyweight Champ

Jared Vanderaa took on Renan Ferreria at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium last Friday night. Legacy Fighting Alliance put on the fight; it was a heavyweight bout that was important to both men. Jared Vanderaa is currently the Heavyweight Champion in South Africa for EFC, Renan Ferreria is a fighter from Brazil training underneath legendary Brazilian fighters “Big Nog” & “Little Nog” it was heavily suggested before this fight that the winner would get an opportunity to challenge for the LFA Heavyweight Belt or might even get that call that most MMA fighters dream of from Dana White at the UFC.

In the first round, both fighters looked excited and ready to fight; they met in the center of the cage and started trading hard punches and leg kicks. There were a few scrambles and grappling exchanges, but the majority of the first round consisted of great striking exchanges. Jared Vanderaa weighed in at 264 and is listed as 6’5″ he is certainly a huge man, but his opponent Renan is listed as 6’10” and weighed in at 248 pounds. Renan definitely looked like the bigger man, but that doesn’t always mean better, Jared looked great in the grappling transitions and to me appeared to be stronger and got the better of those exchanges.

In the second round, Renan landed a great right straight that came right down the pipe. Renan’s arms are so long that it looked like Jared miscalculated the distance and let the punch clip him. Vanderaa is usually great at slipping shots like that. The punch put Jared on the mat, but didn’t really hurt him. He appeared to be composed and defended Renan’s barrage of punches from the top. Renan landed a couple of huge elbows that split Jared’s forehead and opened him up, Vanderaa fought his way up to a standing position. The fighters were now both on their feet. Vanderaa executed a beautiful trip and took Renan to the ground. Vanderaa was controlling this position until it looked like he took a deep breath in and threw a punch straight down, at that moment Renan started to position himself to finish the fight, seconds later Jared Vanderaa was caught in a deep triangle choke and tapped out.

Renan Ferreria will have his eyes set on the LFA Heavyweight Championship since currently, the title is vacant. His next bout will probably be in early 2020 and for the belt or in the UFC as a rookie with that organization.

Jared Vanderaa will have to wait for the California Commission to make a decision about a medical suspension since Vanderaa took some huge shots. Vanderaa will be looking at Dana White’s Contender Series for his next fight in order to regain traction on the road to the UFC. Maybe there is a title defense in his future. Either way, we expect Jared Vanderaa to bounce back stronger than ever and keep representing Hemet & San Jacinto in the cage.

The Hemet & San Jacinto would like to congratulate Jared Vanderaa on an amazing fight and can’t wait for his next match! We wish you a speedy recovery Champ!

That opportunity is here now where he will meet in the cage against Chi Chopper Lewis Perry, a 35-year-old Heavyweight with a 7-0 record fighting out of London. Perry would have a 100% finish ratio, but he has one draw and two no contests (no contests usually result when a fighter breaks a rule that results in the fight-ending). He will travel down to our neck of the woods to face our hometown hero Jared “The Mountain” Vanderaa.

This fight is scheduled to take place in Riverside Ca, on August 30th (Venue to be determined) and in essence serves as a number one contender fight. The winner will hope to make a quick jump back into the cage to challenge the Current Heavyweight champ as a stepping stone to get into the UFC and fight in the octagon. Jared is entering this fight with a 9-3 record, but two of those losses where highly questionable decisions that many feel like should have gone his way. His other loss came via submission late in a fight that he was winning on the scorecards.

Jared has a 100% finishing rate with six KO/TKO’s and three submissions. He is ready to take this fight anywhere it’s going to go. Jared has been in camp for a couple of months training with fighters who are currently on the UFC roster to be ready for this fight. If you ask Jared how he feels going into the fight, he will tell you how confident he currently is. Jared feels like he is 100% a better fighter then he was when he won the EFC Heavyweight title.

Jared has been training at Dan Henderson’s Athletic Center, Team Quest Athletic Center, and with other various fighters to work on specialties. Jared is ready to take this fight wherever it may go, but he won’t take his opponent lightly. He knows that his opponent is known for being very aggressive and an angry fighter. I expect Jared Vanderaa to play it smart, choose his shots, and try to wear his opponent out. One thing Jared prides himself on is his stamina and tenacity to keep fighting until he hears the final bell rings.
Tickets go on sale soon, let’s show our support for Hemet’s fighter Jared Vanderaa and show up to the fight in Riverside.
