The local coffee brand confirmed it has officially taken possession of the depot space, marking a major step toward transforming the longtime landmark into a new gathering spot for the community.

Once open, Rendezvous Coffee plans to operate seven days a week, offering a full menu that will include specialty coffee drinks along with fresh breakfast and lunch options. The concept aims to blend the building’s historic character with a modern, comfortable café atmosphere.

The Hemet Train Depot, a well-known piece of the city’s history, is expected to provide a unique backdrop for the new business, appealing to both residents interested in local heritage and those simply looking for a place to enjoy a cup of coffee.

The company said its team is currently working to prepare the space, with a grand opening planned for later this year. An official opening date has not yet been announced.

Local supporters and community members are already expressing excitement about the project, which is expected to add a new destination in the heart of Hemet.

On Friday, August 4, 2023, at 4:05 a.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a business in the 24000 block of John F. Kennedy Drive in the city of Moreno Valley, reference an armed robbery. Upon arrival, deputies learned a suspect entered the business around 4 a.m., where he produced a firearm and demanded money from the cash register. The store employee complied, and after taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, the suspect fled the location eastbound on foot. No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years-old, 6’ tall, with an athletic build. He was wearing dark colored clothing, white shoes, with a hoodie pulled over his head and a black face mask covering his face. The suspect is still outstanding and considered armed and dangerous. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 8:30 p.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Station responded to a robbery at a business in the 12700 Block of Moreno Beach Boulevard in the City of Moreno Valley. Three suspects entered the above location, selected several items, and attempted to leave without paying. An employee who tried to stop them was pushed to the floor, resulting in an injury. The suspects exited the store and entered an awaiting Kia Forte.

At about 8:46 p.m., the vehicle was located in the area of Gilman Springs Road and Sanderson Avenue in the Hemet County area. A stop of the suspect vehicle was attempted, and the vehicle failed to yield; therefore, a pursuit was initiated. At the termination of the pursuit, the driver fled and was apprehended. Deputies determined the vehicle was reported stolen out of Los Angeles.

The adult driver of the vehicle, Manuel Tatum, an 18-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and felony evading. The other three suspects, who were juveniles, were located in the area of South San Jacinto Avenue and East Commonwealth Avenue. The three juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall for robbery and conspiracy.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that two suspects entered the business, one brandishing a firearm, and demanded money before fleeing in a vehicle in an unknown direction. “My mom took courses in floral arrangement and has owned several stores including a florist shop in Compton,” said Roxanna Bautista.  “We know what we’re doing,” said Rosa Bautista. When Rosa relocated to the San Jacinto area, she noticed the lack of floral shops in the area. She started asking people where they shopped for their flowers. “No one that we asked shopped at a florist in San Jacinto. We decided to change that,“ said Roxanna.

We get many compliments for those, and we are always fully stocked.”

Laurel had a client that needed bookkeeping services, so she referred that client to me. To help Laurel in her business, we nominated her to cut the ribbon at today’s ceremony. The Chamber of Commerce is all about businesses helping businesses. I’m so excited for Laurel; she’s a very active person in the community. She’s a real asset. And the Destination Coffeehouse is a beautiful setting.”

Lakshman Koka, immediate past President of the Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Koka and Associates, was glad to have Laurel Netherton from AFLAC as new members. “The grand opening is always a great opportunity to network with other businesses and to share information with other business members. For example, I am the CEO of Dr. Koka and Associates, along with my wife, Dr. Vidhya Koka. Well, our employees are covered by Workmen’s Compensation, but we are not.
