If you didn’t know it was there, you probably wouldn’t even notice it. Lowe’s Cupcake Corner & Bakery is nestled next to a larger business at the Southwest Corner of Florida Avenue and Meridian Street in Hemet. Heather Lowe, the ever-smiling owner, welcomes you like a long-lost family member with a beaming smile and plenty of sweet aromas.

Despite the lack of publicity, her bakery is rated among the top ten small bakeries out of thirty total.

She originated in Michigan and her family moved to California some years ago. In 2017 she came to visit then; six months later, she and her husband moved here to care for her aging in-laws, who told them, “We don’t need any care, thank you. We’re pretty able to take of ourselves, so do what you want to do.”

Somewhat stunned, she and her husband conferred. She always wanted to own a bakery since she had been banking most of her life.

“I have always liked making bread and cupcakes. So I wanted to bake.

Wow did she come to have her current business?

“I started on Facebook. Cup Cake sales on Facebook – which did not go over well. Then I started working at Safe Haus Craft Beer and Kitchen in Moreno Valley. A sole-proprietorship, not a corporation. They allowed me to take some of their beers and make caramels. I showed them how I could do things – and then the COVID Pandemic hit.

“That’s when I decided the only way I would make it was to open my own place while everything was in a down situation. I would sort of creek into the business. That’s how I came to this location. I made some sales at Matt McPherson’s Farmer’s Market in Hemet – then I acquired this location.”

How is business today?

“Slow right now. We opened in April 2021 right in the middle of the pandemic and we have survived despite the virus.”

She seems not at all disturbed about having a rough time establishing herself. She is very optimistic – always offering a beaming smile to patrons.

In addition to her baking prowess, she is equally proud of her six children and ten grand-babies. Her second son works with her – the rest are scattered about the country.

I can personally attest to the flavor of her productions. Sweet – Sweet – Sweet.

Several customers had opinions about her bakery items:

Cameron: “Business owner couldn’t be sweeter – they’re so friendly and accommodating that their personality alone makes you want to go back. Doesn’t hurt that her baked goods are absolutely delicious.”

Hi Y: “Best cakes and donut holes in all of Hemet.”

Barbara C: “Absolutely the best cinnamon roll in town.”

Elissa G: “Amazing new place that opened up on the corner of Meridian & Florida. The owner was extremely kind and made an assortment of three dozen regular cupcakes for my order – and OMG, they were so good.”

Kara C: “The best cupcakes I have ever tried. So delicious and moist. I loved it; everything was so fresh.”

If you’re in the neighborhood and like sweets, this is the place.

I join these folks. I’ve tried several of her concoctions and oh my – so heavenly. Just sayin’
