The Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) Eagles football team will play their first home game against the Citrus College Owls in the new 5,000-seat stadium at the Menifee Valley Campus at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 9.

Pregame festivities will be hosted in the stadium courtyard starting at 4 p.m. An exciting half-time performance will feature the Vista Murrieta High School band. These events are coordinated and supported by the MSJC Foundation, Student Life & Development, Outreach, and MSJC Athletics.

The more than $50 million, three-story Athletics & Kinesiology Complex offers opportunities for all students, a training facility for MSJC athletics, and a place for the community to convene. This 30,722-square-foot complex boasts the field, stadium, press box, team rooms, kinesiology facility, training room, classrooms, beach volleyball court, and softball field.

“We’ve been looking forward to our first game day in the stadium,” said Dr. Roger Schultz, Superintendent/President. “We are excited to rally around our athletes as they compete in the stadium, celebrate our graduates, and host fundraisers and other events with our community partners. This complex is a game-changer for our college and the communities we serve.”

This state-of-the art facility will transform Eagle Athletics and support educational programs in health and wellness. Programs and courses offered in the complex are aerobics, yoga, body conditioning, first aid and CPR, self-defense, strength training, and sport psychology classes. The field provides space for exercise-walking and jogging courses and training facilities for the college’s intercollegiate sports teams.

The new Athletics & Kinesiology Complex was completed this past spring, and the Eagles began training in the new facility this summer.

“Having a state-of-the-art facility has made this an exceptional place for our players to develop,” Head Football Coach Casey Mazzotta said. “We are excited to give the community something to rally around on Saturday nights.”

The Eagles football team is coming off two of their most successful seasons in the Mazzotta era as they won back-to-back American Mountain League Championships and in 2021 won the American Division title. In all, MSJC has appeared in a bowl game for three straight seasons.

This year, the Eagles embarked on a new challenge as they compete in the National Division and the Southern League.

“Our plan is to compete for a conference championship and to reach a bowl game,” Mazzotta said. “We know we are moving into one of the best, if not the best, conferences in the state, but we just need to stay focused and take it one week at a time.”

An addition to the 2023-24 season is that all games will utilize cashless digital ticketing. MSJC student with a Student Government Association (SGA) sticker are admitted for free. General admission tickets are $10 and students, seniors over 65, and children under 12 are $7. Tickets must be purchased online through Hometown Tickets at msjcathletics.com/general/Tickets A link to tickets is on msjcathletics.com under the “Gameday” tab and on @msjcathletics social media platforms.

Parking is available in lots A, B, and E off La Piedra Road.

The Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) Foundation was awarded $2.5 million after Riverside County Third District Supervisor Chuck Washington forwarded a proposal to support the college district’s career and technical education programs.

The $2.5 million allocation, approved by Riverside County Board of Supervisors on July 18, comes from Washington’s Third District American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. It is the largest grant received by the MSJC Foundation.

“This tremendous support has a significant impact on our students and the communities we serve,” said Roger Schultz, Ph.D., Superintendent/President. “We appreciate our County Supervisors for working with the MSJC Foundation and partners to create innovative economic and job development programs. Relevant courses help students build essential skills to earn well-paying jobs and satisfy the needs of the communities we serve.”

Washington said that as people return to the workforce, the region has experienced shortages in many sectors, including childcare and healthcare, which result in barriers to Riverside County’s economic recovery.

“The Third District welcomes projects that improve economic, health, and safety outcomes for our residents,” Washington said. “This funding will support those goals by ensuring MSJC students who enter healthcare, law enforcement and other career and technical programs are trained with the latest equipment and technologies. MSJC’s Temecula Valley Campus prepares our local students for jobs in high-demand and well-paid fields, which contributes to our economic growth.”

Washington’s Third District takes in a portion of MSJC’s 1,700-square-mile district, which includes the Temecula Valley Campus, MSJC’s newest campus that opened in 2021.

“We are honored to receive this support from Supervisor Washington and the entire Board of Supervisors,” said Adam Eventov, MSJC Foundation Board President. “This is a major milestone in the Foundation’s new initiatives to benefit the college district and its students. This is an investment in programs that advance affordable access to career and technical training that not only helps meet the immediate needs of employers but helps improve attainment of associate and bachelor’s degrees.”

The MSJC Foundation will use the funding to support an innovative K-16 program for training in fields that include general automotive maintenance, construction, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and utilities (water, gas, electric and solar). Existing and proposed programs will offer rigorous and enriching educational opportunities in an equitable and inclusive environment that fosters growth through equal opportunities and access throughout MSJC’s district.

Partnerships with K-12 districts will allow for articulated curriculum that meets the state’s high school graduation requirements and qualifies for college credit that can be applied towards an associate or bachelor’s degree.

The funding will provide resources for needed upgrades and new equipment and technologies to support equal opportunity access across the college district.

Tickets are required, but the community is welcome to enjoy these films – some nostalgic and some educational. Three of the films cost $25 per vehicle and three of the movies are free. Each showing will be limited to 80 vehicles.

The movie lineup is:

My Family/Mi Familia: Friday, Oct 2 (FREE)

Grease: Saturday, Oct. 3

Milk: Tuesday, Oct. 6 (FREE)

The Goonies: Friday, Oct. 16

The Sandlot: Saturday, Oct. 17

Nightmare Before Christmas: Friday, Oct. 30 (FREE)

All films will begin at dusk. The parking lot will open at 6 p.m. for all showings.

All attendees will be required to practice safe social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Attendees must wear masks when they’re outside of their vehicles.

All profits benefit the Pledge for Success, a basic-needs initiative that removes some of the barriers to student success inside and outside of the classroom by providing students funding, food, books and supplies, clothing and basic, essential hygienic items. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and recession, the needs are extremely high this year and all financial help is much appreciated for this important cause.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone in one way or another – and, in some cases, many ways.

Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) has continued providing students instruction but had to cancel all of its face-to-face events.
