Remaining dates on the city’s Measure Q information page are Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., both at Hemet Public Library.

Measure Q is a one-cent local sales tax measure placed on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot, according to the city. The citys English FAQ states Measure Q would generate approximately $16 million annually in local funding for Hemet public safety, local infrastructure and city services,” and that the increase is “one additional cent for every one dollar of taxable purchases.”

The city page states Measure Q could provide local funding for general use, such as improving 9-1-1 emergency and fire response; maintaining police services, including neighborhood police patrols, crime prevention, and helping address homelessness; maintaining fire protection services, improving infrastructure, and replacing outdated lifesaving and firefighting equipment; maintaining library services; attracting and retaining businesses; supporting safe, clean drinking water and water infrastructure; and repairing streets, fixing potholes, and keeping public areas clean and safe by removing trash and graffiti.

The city states all money raised by the measure would stay in Hemet; that by law no funds could be taken away by the state; and that accountability would include public disclosure of spending, independent citizens’ oversight, and audits. The FAQ states essential purchases such as groceries, prescription medicine, diapers, and feminine hygiene products are exempt from sales tax, and that Measure Q would last until ended by voters.

The FAQ states Hemet’s current sales tax rate is 8.75% and that Measure Q would need a majority vote to pass. Ballots will be mailed the week of Oct. 5, 2026, and may be returned by mail or ballot drop box with no postage required, according to the city’s fact sheet, which directs voters to rivco.gov/vote for more voting information.
