Free, family-friendly outdoor events hosted by Hemet Mom’s Adventure Club are helping San Jacinto Valley residents unplug, connect, and create lasting memories in nature.

Residents from across the San Jacinto Valley gathered over Memorial Day weekend for a unique outdoor experience hosted by Hemet Mom’s Adventure Club (HMA), a growing local nonprofit dedicated to connecting families through nature-based activities.

The group organized a family-friendly campout at Golden Era Golf Course, where dozens of families came together for a weekend centered on community, outdoor fun, and shared experiences. Unlike traditional clubs, HMA operates without membership fees, offering free or low-cost events that are open to families from Hemet, San Jacinto, and surrounding areas.

While its Facebook group is reserved for female caregivers, HMA’s in-person events are designed for the entire family. The Memorial Day gathering reflected the group’s inclusive spirit, with attendees enjoying camping, socializing, and outdoor recreation in an environment defined by generosity and connection.

Hemet Mom’s Adventure Club focuses on encouraging children and families to embrace the outdoors. Through activities such as fishing trips, campfires, trail exploration, Jeep rides, and river outings, the organization promotes values like curiosity, resilience, and confidence while strengthening family bonds.

The nonprofit operates under the sponsorship of the San Jacinto Lions Club and has become a valued community resource. Organizers emphasize their mission to “trade screens for sunrises” and create meaningful, lasting memories through shared outdoor experiences.

Golden Era Golf Course has served as a long-time partner, helping make events like the recent campout possible. Organizers say the collaboration allows more local families to access safe, welcoming outdoor spaces.

Participants described the weekend as a standout experience, with some noting it rivaled even major theme park outings in terms of enjoyment. For many families, the event offered a rare opportunity to unplug, connect, and create lasting memories close to home.

One mother had the following to say, “My grandkids and I had a blast. We felt so safe and comfortable surrounded by friends. We had a great adventure and appreciate Golden Era letting us share your beautiful space.”

Hemet Mom’s Adventure Club continues to host events throughout the year and welcomes new participants. Those interested in joining or learning more can find the group on Facebook by searching “Hemet Mom’s Adventure Club” or contact organizers directly at

(activities outdoors or close)

Effective today, more businesses in Riverside County are now required to move their activities outdoors as part of statewide actions to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The governor’s announcement today impacts 30 counties, including Riverside County, that are on the state’s monitoring list. Newsom said the order to move activities outdoors was necessary to reduce the spread of coronavirus and curb the recent increase in hospitalizations. Riverside County has experienced a steady rise in confirmed cases, hospitalizations and patients requiring intensive care
dating back to Memorial Day.

Those businesses that cannot move activities outside must close.
The new restrictions include:
— Fitness centers and gyms
— Worship services
— Offices for non-critical sectors
— Personal care services
— Hair salons and barbershops
— Malls

These businesses may still do curb-side retail, so long as there are no indoor operations. “As we struggle with national laboratory issues artificially depressing new case counts, people need to realize we’re far from being out of the woods,” said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, Riverside County public health officer. “Summer heat isn’t stopping COVID-19, but for some of these sectors, the heat means there may be no good way to do them outdoors.

We need to reduce the impact on our hospitals by reducing transmission, and as long as the numbers keep rising, the state’s need to reimpose restrictions will keep rising too.”

Riverside County health officials remind all residents that in addition to these new restrictions, there is still a statewide stay at home order in effect and residents should not gather with family and friends who live in different households, attend parties or join social gatherings. These are known places where the disease is spread.

Riverside County officials also remind residents to get screened at one of the many coronavirus testing sites located throughout the region. More than 270,000 tests have been conducted in Riverside County so far. For more information on testing, click www.rivcoph.org/coronavirus/testing.

(How to decorate your house)

Autumn means crunchy leaves, ghosts, gourds, and pumpkin spice everything. And, for many, it’s also time to dig out the Halloween decorations to get the house looking its creepiest.

Fun and festive, sure. But probably not ideal if your home is on the market. After all, you want potential buyers to feel like they’re visiting their new home, not a haunted house they’ll run screaming from.

That doesn’t mean you have to refrain from putting out any holiday decor — follow these tips from real estate professionals to help you decorate without scaring off someone looking to buy a home.

1. Stick to Decorating the Outdoors

“Too much ghoulish distraction indoors will make the buyers feel as if they are touring a haunted home rather than a home for sale,” David Meek, a real estate broker with Keller Williams Arizona Realty in Scottsdale, Arizona, said.

…But don’t go overboard.

Whatever you put outside, make sure it isn’t too scary, as you want your home to look appealing, not frightening.

“I would focus on making it more seasonal-based by sticking to lots of pumpkins, cornstalks, gourds, etc.,” said Kevin Lawton, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Schiavone & Associates in Bordentown, New Jersey. “You don’t want the decorations to detract from features of the house.”

And if you go with pumpkins, Jeanine M. Boiko, a real estate agent for Exit Realty in New York, recommends going faux, as these don’t “rot or give off an odor — or invite critters to lunch.”

Bonus tip when thinking about outdoor Halloween decorations: “Avoid being the guy on the block with the inflatable yard decor [because] it will eclipse your yard sign,” Meek said.

2. Inside Isn’t Entirely Off Limits.

You won’t want to decorate heavily indoors, but “candles and soaps in Halloween-inspired scents and colors are welcome additions to the kitchen and bathroom,” according to Boiko.

“The soaps can be neatly tucked into a small basket that you can leave on a counter,” Boiko added. “Candles also fit nicely on mantels, shelves, and countertops — unless your countertops are small. If they are small, avoid putting too much on them, as you want to create the illusion of more space, not less.”

Boiko also suggests adding Halloween pillows to couches or beds or even “simply adding candy corn to a clear vase or dish,” which you can place on a shelf or table.

3. Keep Safety In Mind

If you’re putting pumpkins or other decorations outside, Boiko advises to “avoid lining your outside steps with them … as you want to keep potential buyers safe when coming and going. If you have a porch, put them off to the side where no one can accidentally trip on them, or set them up on either side of your steps on your lawn.”

Note: It never hurts to check up on your homeowners’ insurance policy when you’re selling your home. Your insurance agent can tell you what sort of coverage you have in case someone gets hurt on your property, so you are aware of the worst happens.

4. Get Those Snapshots Before Decorating

Hopefully, your home gets taken off the market quickly, but just in case, it’s good to have timeless photos of your home. After all, “you don’t want to be on the market in January with Halloween decor in your photos,” Meek said.

5. Don’t Forget to Clean Up

Once Halloween has come and gone, take down holiday-specific decorations. And if you went with real pumpkins instead of fake ones, ditch those as well. After all, as Boiko pointed out, you don’t want them to smell or attract unwanted critters.
