File # GE221600002

Details:

On Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 5:30 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force conducted a follow-up investigation related to an armed robbery that occurred in the 40000 block of Washington Street in Bermuda Dunes on June 9, 2022. During the follow-up investigation, Gang Task Force Officers arrested documented criminal street gang member, Isaac Martinez, 18 of Indio for Robbery, Criminal Threats and Conspiracy. Gang Task Force Officers later served a search warrant at Martinez’ residence located in the 80000 block of Moonshine Drive in Indio. During the service of the search warrant Gang Task Force Officers located a .380 ACP semi-auto handgun and a .22 LR Revolver. The firearms were collected as part of the robbery investigation.

Continuing with their investigation, Gang Task Force Officers served a search warrant at a residence located in the 83000 block of Lupine Avenue in Indio. During the service of the search warrant, Gang Task Force Officers located a vehicle occupied by multiple subjects. All occupants were removed from the vehicle and a search of the car was conducted pursuant to a search warrant. During a search of the vehicle a loaded 9mm semi-auto handgun was located. Gang Task Force Officers determined the handgun was a non-serialized firearm or what is commonly referred to as a “Ghost Gun.” Eddie Amezquita, 18 of Indio was arrested at the scene for Possession of a Concealed Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of a Ghost Gun. While on scene, Gang Task Force Officers determined that Amezquita had fired a single round from the firearm in a negligent manner just in front of the residence where the search warrant was being served. The incident occurred a short time before Gang Task Force Officers arrived on scene to serve the search warrant. Amezquita was subsequently charged with Negligent Discharge of a Firearm in addition to his other charges. Both Martinez and Amezquita were booked at John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
