(Sign Ups)

Something Fun For All Ages

Looking to get your kids involved with sports? Valley-Wide still has room for kids to play Baseball and Softball. Ages range from ages 5-14. They have a little something for everyone, starting with t-ball, machine pitch, coach pitch, and also player vs. player.

Sign-ups end February 21st for most divisions and opening day is scheduled to be April 4th at the Diamond Valley baseball fields. The opening day events are usually a great spectacle for everyone to come out and cheer. Often times they bring out a former professional baseball player to give a speech to the kids. There are usually plenty of vendors with shopping opportunities and food trucks available if you are feeling hungry. Valley-Wide pulls out all the stops for the kids to enjoy themselves: bounce houses and jumpers and also the parade of the teams as all of the parents and fans get to watch the kids run the bases. It’s one of the bigger events in our valley and something everyone looks forward to.

However, Valley-Wide doesn’t only offer things for the kids. Maybe it’s time to dust off your old sneakers and join a basketball team? Right now Valley-Wide has sign-ups for adult basketball teams. Here is your chance to stop talking about the glory days and remind everyone how great you once were. The hardwood is calling your name…come out and show your kids what you are all about. There are also Slow-Pitch softball sign-ups available. These are generally Co-ed teams. You have to come in with a full team when you sign up. Ages are 18-up and games are played in various fields all around the valley. So get out that gear and start your stretching because it’s time to get back on the field and play some softball with your family and friends.

We often forget as adults that our health is just as important as our kids’. Physical and Mental health often coincide with each other, but we forget to take care of our physical selves. With all of the stress at work at home, it can often become overwhelming and exhausting to keep up with life and we ignore the fact that we need to keep up with ourselves. The idea of exercising or competing often makes us think, “dang that sounds like a lot of extra work.” however, an article found on www.adaa.org states that “exercise and friendly competition is the most effective way to reduce stress.” Maybe that’s just what you need to get out of your current funk. if you have been dealing with stress and feeling stuck in life maybe it’s the time step out of the comfort zone and try something to new. After all, you know what they say, “a body in motion, stays in motion.”

(Hemet Youth Spring Baseball)

Kids Eight and Under, Have Somewhere To Play Beginning In Early March

Hemet Youth is back after a short sabbatical and they are ready to start their season. Right now they are holding registration for two divisions. 8u (ages 6-8) in this division players are pitched to by a machine. The machine is set to send pitches somewhere between 25-30 mph. This makes the game fun for the kids to play because they get used to accurate strike zones. On top of that, they learn to hit the ball from a dropping angle. When coaches pitch to kids they usually underhand it, which can be good at times. However, the sooner you get your young kids used to hitting balls coming from a dropping angle the more comfortable they will be when put in front of actual pitchers.

The other division open for registration right now is T-ball (ages 4-6). This is where the little ones begin to learn the fundamentals of the game. Boys and Girls are welcome to register to play. It costs $70 to sign your kid up to play. Registration is this weekend (January 11th 10-2 & January 12th 10-4) at the Hemet Youth Fields, all you need is their birth certificate in order to sign them up to play. This is a great opportunity to get your kids involved in a spring sport or introduce them to baseball. The season is scheduled to start on March 7th. Hemet Youth is aiming to field teams of 12 players per team, which presents a unique opportunity for citizens of the San Jacinto Valley.

The Hemet Youth organization is in need of volunteers to help their season go smoothly. So if you know someone who wants to help coach kids and teach them how to play the game of baseball, send them down to the Hemet Youth Fields. Maybe you are more of a snack shop person, that’s great! They need help there too. Anyone who has been a part of recreational sports knows that a team is only as organized as their team parent. If you are an amazing team parent Hemet Youth needs you too, so head down to the fields and find out what you can do to help these kids play baseball.

Ever since taking over as president of Hemet Youth, Alex Nielsen has worked tirelessly in order to upgrade the fields & facilities. He has been out there taking care of the grass, tilling the dirt, and chalking the baselines in order to make sure everything is in tip-top shape for opening day. Alex Nielsen is the kind of president Hemet Youth needs. He loves the game of baseball and everything that goes into it. He likes to make sure kids are learning the correct way to play and wants everyone to have the opportunity to pick up a bat and glove. Alex Neilsen has been making some amazing changes at the Hemet Youth fields all for the kids of the valley. So let’s try our best to get out there, buy a hot-dog or two and enjoy some good old fashion baseball.
