The crash occurred at 5:09 p.m. Sunday in the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Myers Street, in the Arlington area, according to Riverside police Sgt. Emilio Angulo.

Arriving officers and firefighters found the motorcyclist suffering from severe injuries, Angulo said. “The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.”

His identity was not immediately released.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, Angulo said.

It was not known whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, he said.

CORONA, CA — A 24-year-old motorist who allegedly caused a collision that triggered a deadly fire on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona because he was driving drunk was re-arrested Thursday after he was briefly released from custody.

Christopher Magallon of Santa Ana was booked back into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside in the predawn hours Thursday on suspicion of DUI gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing great bodily injury and DUI resulting in property damage.

Magallon is being held on $75,000 bail.

He had originally been taken into custody Monday morning after the fatal crash, and California Highway Patrol investigators submitted a request to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for a criminal complaint against the suspect.

However, prosecutors returned the case to the CHP Wednesday based on unspecified evidentiary concerns, and Magallon’s speedy arraignment window guaranteed by state law came and went, leading to a “flash release” from custody. Before he could leave the downtown Riverside jail, however, he was re- arrested on the same allegations.

CHP investigators were preparing Thursday to resubmit their case to the D.A.’s office. The next arraignment window will close Monday.

According to the CHP, the suspect was at the wheel of a Lincoln Mark LT westbound on the 91 about 12:30 a.m. Monday, approaching the Interstate 15 interchange, when he “veered to the right and struck the left rear” of a Toyota 4Runner.

“After the impact, the Toyota overturned and caught fire, with the driver trapped inside,” Officer Javier Navarro said.

Corona Fire Department personnel reached the location within a few minutes and extinguished the fully engulfed SUV in the fast lane. The victim, a man whose identity has yet to be released by the coroner’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Magallon’s Lincoln was found broken down in the center divider. He was still in the pickup when CHP officers detained him.

Navarro alleged that evidence collected at the scene confirmed the suspect was drunk.

All westbound lanes were shut down until 5 a.m. Monday, when the closures were lifted.

On February 16, 2024, at about 4:44 p.m., deputies from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision near Rancho California Road and Margarita Road in the city of Temecula. Deputies located a vehicle versus motorcycle collision where the sole rider of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Accident Investigators from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is ongoing. The preliminary investigation revealed the SUV made a left turn out of a nearby business and collided with the motorcycle. The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in this collision.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

On February 9, 2024, at 2:54 p.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Perris Station responded to the intersection of A Street and Redding Way, Perris, regarding a report of a major injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Deputies arrived on the scene and located the bicyclist unresponsive with major injuries on the roadway. Deputies and medical personnel performed lifesaving measures, but the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative during the investigation.

The Perris Sheriff’s Station Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings revealed the vehicle was attempting to make a left turn from Redding Way onto A Street when the bicyclist failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with the front end of the vehicle. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. This investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the deceased will not be released pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin. A temporary road closure of A Street between Red Maple Lane and Aspen Lane was required to process the scene and collect evidence.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:35 p.m., deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a major-injury traffic collision at the intersection of Kitching Street and Cactus Avenue. Deputies arrived and located a traffic collision involving three vehicles: a black Lexus, a grey Dodge Ram, and a white Dodge Ram. The driver of the Lexus sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the white Dodge Ram were medically evaluated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The impact from the collision caused the gray Dodge Ram to enter a nearby flood channel. With the assistance of good Samaritans, the passenger of the gray Dodge Ram was rescued from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. CalFire and the Swift Water Rescue Team began a search for the driver, who was no longer in the vehicle.

The Swift Water Rescue Team located the driver of the gray Dodge Ram in the flood channel at Ramona Expressway and Evans Road in the city of Perris, where they were pronounced deceased. The identities of the decedents are being withheld pending notification to the next of kin. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information will be released at this time.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were determined to be a factor in the collision.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 5:04 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Bay Avenue in Moreno Valley reference a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Deputies arrived on the scene and located an Isuzu Trooper, which collided with a pedestrian crossing the street. Paramedics from Cal Fire also arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures but ultimately pronounced the pedestrian deceased. The driver of the Isuzu Trooper remained at the location and cooperated with the investigation. It does not appear drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in this incident.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the Isuzu Trooper was traveling southbound on Perris Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.  

The identity of the deceased will not be released pending notification to the next of kin. A temporary road closure of Perris Boulevard between Cottonwood Avenue and Alessandro Boulevard was required to process the scene and collect evidence.
