Oct. 16, 2023 – Students interested in transferring to a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) can get accepted on the spot and find all the information they need at an HBCU Fall Caravan Tour stop at Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) on Monday, October 23.

The stop, hosted by MSJC and the College of the Desert, is the first in a series of the 2023 HBCU Fall Caravan Tour visits from October 23 through November 1 to inform students about the opportunities afforded by applying to an HBCU. Participants can take part in workshops and enjoy music and community while meeting with representatives from HBCUs. The first 300 attendees will be provided with free food. All are welcome.

The HBCU event at the MSJC Menifee Campus will be held 3 – 6 p.m. near the 700 building, 28237 La Piedra Road, and is free and open to the public.

Registering for the October 23 stop is as easy as clicking this link. For further information, email the MSJC Transfer Center at transfercenter@msjc.edu.

The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and HBCUs are conducting the annual HBCU Fall Caravan tour to inform students about the opportunities afforded by applying to an HBCU. Thirty-nine HBCUs offer guaranteed transfers from California’s community colleges, and the tour offers an opportunity for students to glean details about the transfer process, learn about scholarship opportunities and learn more about the HBCU of their choice. HBCUs include public and private institutions that vary in size and degree programs and are located primarily in the South and on the East coast.

HBCUs, which were founded during the Reconstruction era, have played a critical role in establishing and expanding the Black middle class. Although HBCUs were originally founded to serve Black and African American students, they enroll other students as well; as recently as 2021, non-Black students comprised 25% of HBCU enrollment.
