At the end of December 2023, local media outlets aired a news story involving theft of gravestone flowers from a cemetery located in the 18100 block of Collier Avenue in Lake Elsinore. The Lake Elsinore Station Special Enforcement Team (SET), assumed the investigation. During the course of the investigation deputies were able to identify Angela Riedel, a 45-year-old resident of Lake Elsinore, as the suspect.

On January 4, 2024, Reidel was spotted in the area of Central Avenue and Collier Avenue, in the city of Lake Elsinore. SET deputies responded to the area and Riedel was taken into custody. Riedel was transported and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for vandalism and theft within the confines of a cemetery. This is an ongoing investigation. On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 5:18 AM, deputies from the Palm Desert Station responded to a report of a shooting at a business. Deputies located a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed and an enforcement stop was conducted. Deputies detained the driver and passenger for further investigation into their possible involvement with the shooting at the business. Deputies located a sling shot, a firearm, and metal pellets inside of the vehicle. Members of the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation and currently identified over forty (40) businesses which were vandalized with similar pellets over the past two months. The total cost to repair the windows of the businesses vandalized in a similar manner is estimated to be over $150,000. The suspects were identified as Chance Sawyer, 24 of Palm Desert, and Brett Wellard, 33 of Palm Desert. Sawyer and Wellard are currently in custody at the John Benoit Detention Center for several counts of vandalism and illegal possession of a firearm.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has a zero tolerance for suspects interrupting the livelihoods of their residents. Suspects will be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest for committing crimes and vandalizing businesses in our county. On Saturday, July 30, 2022, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded to the 4000 block of Main Street in the city of Riverside, regarding the report of vandalism to the Riverside County Historic Courthouse. The Riverside Police Department had initially received the call for service and upon their arrival, detained numerous suspects near the building who were believed to have defaced the property. Once the crime was confirmed to have occurred on county property, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assumed the investigation, which revealed demonstrators were at the location in support of abortion rights. With the assistance of the Riverside Police Department, the investigation determined eight suspects vandalized the building’s facade, doors, and windows, under the guise of civil disobedience, causing approximately $10,000 in damage.

The following suspects were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for vandalism and conspiracy to commit vandalism:

Alexandria Fite, a 22-year-old resident of Upland

Idil Aston, a 25-year-old resident of Moreno Valley

Christian Rangel, a 23-year-old resident of Placentia

Elise Kelder, a 28-year-old resident of Corona

Aida Aston, a 32-year-old resident of Moreno Valley

Oliver Solares, a 24-year-old resident of Bellflower

Alexandria Ortega, a 18-year-old resident of Apple Valley

Alexander Castro, a 22-year-old resident of Fullerton

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has a responsibility to ensure the Constitutional Rights of our community members are protected and we take that commitment very seriously. We will arrest and charge offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
