On Sunday, August 22, 2021, about 4:26 A.M., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Clay Street and General Drive, in the city of Jurupa Valley. Deputies and Cal Fire arrived on-scene and located a single vehicle that had struck a curb and two traffic signal poles, ejecting the driver. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cal Fire paramedics.
The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicated the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Clay Street, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with a curb, traffic signal pole, crossed an intersection, and collided with a second traffic signal pole. At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.
Both directions of Clay Street between Van Buren Blvd Avenue and Linares Avenue were closed for the duration of the investigation. The identity of the deceased will not be released pending further investigation and the notification to the next of kin.
