The Historic Hemet Theatre has announced a special encore performance of the nation’s #1 tribute to Freddie Mercury and Queen – to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Hemet’s vintage movie house.

Queen Nation performed their wildly popular tribute here in 2017 and 2018, with sold out audiences and rave reviews. Since then, the band’s popularity has grown so high that concert dates have become increasingly difficult to get – and expensive.

On Saturday November 20th, HHT will use the occasion of its 100th anniversary to host a special return engagement of Queen Nation. Tickets for this special event will be $35 per person and are expected to sell out quickly (the first night tickets were available, over 50 were sold).

No one captures the energy and showmanship of Freddy Mercury like Gregory Finsley, lead singer for Queen Nation. Finsley and the band recreate the image, sound, and stage persona of vintage Queen. Fans will be taken on a retrospective journey… We Will Rock You… Bohemian Rhapsody… We Are The Champions… Crazy Little Thing Called Love… You’re My Best Friend… Another One Bites The Dust… and so many more classic hits. This show is one that will be talked about for a long time…

HOT AUGUST NIGHT: DEAN COLLEY RETURNS TO HHT – Courtesy Photo of HHT | Contributed

Meanwhile, Dean Colley is set to deliver another sellout with his uncanny recreation of Neil Diamond’s look and unique vocal style. On Saturday August 24th, Dean returns to the Historic Hemet theatre with his band, Hot August Night, for another nostalgic evening of music and dancing.

Dean performed here in 2017 and 2018, both with sellout crowds and rave reviews. Now, Dean returns, ready to rock the house once more. Fans will be cheering and singing for each classic tune, including “Sweet Caroline,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Holly Holy,” “Forever in Blue Jeans” and many more. Featuring some 35 hits, this show takes you through the history of Neil Diamond, playing all the favorite songs.

To provide extra safety during the uptick in Covid cases, HHT is reducing occupancy for the next few shows. A designated social distancing area will be provided along one side of the auditorium.

6 shows remain in the 2021 Tribute Mania Concert Season: Tribute to Neil Diamond, with Hot August Night (Aug 21), Tribute to Led Zeppelin, with Led Zepagain (Sept 4), Tribute to Bob Seger, with Turn the Page (Sept 18), Tribute to Foreigner. featuring 4NR (Oct 2), Tribute to The Beatles, with Hard Day’s Night (Oct 16), and Tribute to Fleetwood Mac with Mirage (Oct 23).

Tickets for Tribute Mania are $25, general admission. Showtime is 7:00 pm, with doors open at 6:15 pm.

On Saturday July 10th, Brad Ford returns to the Historic Hemet Theatre with his band, Fortunate Son, to perform their remarkable Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival and the music of John Fogerty. A week later on Sunday July 18th, Brad will return as part of the Celebration of Life for Bryan Carrier.

The show on July 10th will be the fifth time that Brad and the band have performed at HHT – and almost certain to be a sellout like the rest!

Anyone who has attended a Tribute Mania concert in the past knows how much fun the tribute performances can be. And, Fortunate Son it is one of the best. In fact, they were one of the first tribute bands to play at HHT and helped build the popularity of the Tribute Mania series.

The lead singer, Brad Ford, founded the band in 1994 and stars as John Fogerty on lead vocals. With his bandmates they travel around the world delighting audiences throughout the United According to their website (FortunateSonTribute.com), they are “the Nation’s “Longest Running” Tribute Show celebrating the music of John Fogerty & Creedence Clearwater Revival.” The Las Vegas Review has proclaimed “FORTUNATE SON is the ultimate CCR Tribute Show!” A critic in Laughlin, named them “the best tribute shows of its kind.” They perform at state and county fairs, casinos, festivals, community concerts, corporate events, and military veteran celebrations.

They play for lots of veteran events because the group has a heart for those who served. The band is a big supporter of the Rolling Thunder organization, an advocacy group educating the public about the accountability for prisoners of war (POWs) and missing in action (MIA) service members of all United States wars.

Meanwhile, plans are coming together for the Celebration of Life for Operations Director Bryan Carrier. Members of Fortunate Son will perform along with band members from several groups who have requested to perform in tribute to Bryan. Information on free tickets to the memorial service and concert can be found on the website, Facebook page or by calling the Box Office.

La Sierra University’s long-running annual Candlelight Concert and signature music department fundraiser have moved into virtual mode, offering holiday cheer during a season hampered by the ongoing pandemic.

La Sierra’s Department of Music on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. will stream the pre-recorded 73rd Annual Candlelight Concert on the ‘Facebook Live’ platform. And on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. the department will hold a two-hour Christmas Gala on its YouTube channel toward raising funds for student scholarships and resources.

Both events are free admission. Registration for the gala is required. The university’s time-honored Candlelight Concert, a cherished holiday tradition, will take place over 75 minutes on Facebook and feature the university’s chorale, orchestra and UNITED vocal ensemble as well as soloists performing a range of works such as “Candlelight Carol” by John Rutter and an arrangement of “Silent Night” by La Verne-based composer and arranger Shawn Kirshner.

The repertoire will also include a newly written arrangement of the German Carol “In dulci jubilo” by Matthew Culloton, and “La March de Rois,” an organ piece performed by Dr. Kimo Smith, director of keyboard and collaborative studies. The online performance will also incorporate a favorite of in-person Candlelight Concerts, the Christmas carol sing-along. “It will include a chance to sing at the top your lungs and from the safety of your home with the La Sierra choirs, orchestra and organ [playing] “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” two of the most beloved carols of the season,” said Director of Choral Studies Dr. Ariel Quintana.

Woodwind and brass players of the La Sierra University Orchestra under Dr. Dean Anderson rehearse for upcoming virtual holiday performances.

La Sierra’s music groups have been preparing for the recorded performances since the beginning of fall quarter. Smaller string ensembles have been allowed to rehearse under health and safety protocol and in a physically-distanced manner on campus. Woodwind, brass and percussion musicians engaged in virtual rehearsals. Recordings for all choral pieces were done from the students’ homes or in their dorm rooms.

In almost all cases vocal students used their smartphones to make their recordings. The music department this year received financial assistance for mics, lighting, cameras, computers, and video and audio editing software in order to produce recorded performances for the concert season, said department chair and Director of Orchestral Studies Dean Anderson earlier this fall. “We believe that the online platform is here to stay and we are adjusting our program offerings to embrace this new era of performances and education,” he said.

The La Sierra University Music Facebook page for Candlelight Concert attendance will be available at https://www.facebook.com/lasierrauniversitymusic For free registration and information about the Christmas Gala 2020 please visit www.lasierra.edu/music/christmas-gala, or text MusicGala2020 to 41444. Further information on these events is also available by email at music@lasierra.edu or by calling 951-785-2036.

(LIVE MUSIC EVENTS)

The County of Riverside has been advised that some restaurants, wineries, parks, and other local establishments may be hosting live music or entertainment events. Please allow this letter to serve as an advisory that offering or holding live entertainment, including live music, is not permitted under the current Orders of Governor Newsom and the California State Public Health Officer.

As you are likely aware, on March 19, 2020, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-33-20, ordering all persons to stay at home to protect the health and well-being of all Californians and to establish consistency across the state in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. This Order encompasses the Order of the State Public Health Officer, also dated March 19, 2020, which states in relevant part: “To protect public health, I as State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health order all individuals living in the State of California to stay at home or at their place of residence except as needed to maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure sectors…” A copy of this Executive Order can be found here: https://covid19.ca.gov/img/Executive-Order-N-33-20.pdf.

The State then set out California’s path forward from this “Stay-at-Home” Order in California’s Pandemic Resilience Roadmap. That Roadmap identifies four stages of the pandemic: safety and preparation (Stage 1); reopening of lower-risk workplaces and other spaces (Stage 2); reopening of higher-risk workplaces and other spaces (Stage 3); and finally an easing of final restrictions leading to the end of the Stay-at-Home Order (Stage 4). https://www.gov.ca.gov/wpcontent/uploads/2020/04/Update-on-California-Pandemic-Roadmap.pdf

On May 7, 2020, it was announced that statewide data supported the gradual movement of the entire state of California into Stage 2 of the Pandemic Resilience Road Map. On May 22, 2020, the County of Riverside was permitted to move forward into the State’s “accelerated Stage 2”. Subsequently, restaurants and wineries were permitted to open in compliance with applicable State Industry Guidance.

On July 2, 2020, due to the community spread of infection, the State Public Health Officer and Director of California Department of Public Health (“CDPH”) issued an Order restricting the indoor operations of certain businesses within the County of Riverside, including bars, pubs, breweries, brewpubs, dine-in restaurants, wineries, and tasting rooms,. This closure remains in effect until further order of the State’s Public Health Officer. A copy of this Order can be found here: https://rivcoph.org/Portals/0/Documents/CoronaVirus/July/HealthProviders/State-PublicHealth-Order-7.13.2020.pdf?ver=2020-07-14-080724-327&timestamp=1594739273570

Also on July 2, 2020, the State’s COVID-19 Industry Guidance for Restaurants, Bars, and Wineries was updated. This document, which can be found here https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-restaurants-bars.pdf, specifically states: “This guidance is not intended for concert, performance, or entertainment venues. Restaurants, bars, and wineries must discontinue this type of entertainment until these types of activities are allowed to resume modified or full operation. All events or gatherings that would bring together persons from different households, such as private parties, must be cancelled or postponed until further notice”. (See Page 3.) Restaurants must “Close dance floors and discontinue performances such as musical or dance acts that encourage large gatherings.” (See Page 14.)

Similarly, the State’s Industry Guidance for Restaurants providing outdoor dining, takeout, drivethrough, and delivery, last updated on July 9, 2020, states: “This guidance is not intended for concert, performance, or entertainment venues. Those types of establishments should remain closed until they are allowed to resume modified or full operation through a specific reopening order or guidance. Establishments that serve full meals must discontinue this type of entertainment until these types of activities are allowed to resume modified or full operation.”

(See Page 3 of the Industry Guidance found here: https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidanceoutdoor-restaurants.pdf.)

Most recently, on July 13, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom and California Department of Public Health (“CDPH”) expanded statewide its indoor closures for businesses that encourage mixing of individuals beyond immediate households and make physical distancing and wearing face coverings difficult. The Order also provides that for counties on the County Monitoring List, including the County of Riverside, “the risks and impacts of disease transmission are even greater.” Therefore, the Order required the immediate closure of indoor operations of additional businesses, events, and activities in Monitoring List counties. The July 13, 2020 Order is available at: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/COVID19/SHO%20Order%20Dimming%20Entire%20State%207-13-2020.pdf

“Concerts” are currently listed as a “Stage 4” activity in the Pandemic Resilience Roadmap. It remains unclear at this time when concerts and/or live music events will be permitted as this is dependent upon certain public health metrics being met by the County. Because of this, the County’s public health officials need your help in both complying with and spreading the word about the State’s Orders which prohibit live music events at restaurants, wineries, parks, and other local establishments at this time. If you are aware of a business or organization hosting or promoting live music events, please contact: Gregory Priamos, County Counsel, at gpriamos@rivco.org, and Kelly Moran, Supervising Deputy County Counsel, at kmoran@rivco.org. Your cooperation and assistance is greatly appreciated.
