(Political notebook)

From the Democrats of Hemet-San Jacinto

Perfection

I won’t bother with a Merriam-Webster’s definition of the term “perfect”. It would take up too much space and besides you already have a pretty good idea of what it means. “Perfect can be an adjective, a verb, or noun. It is interesting that while “perfect” means that something cannot be any better, being perfect means there are no flaws whatsoever.

Even more interesting is that there is no opposite. Antonyms are amiss, bad, defective, faulty, flawed, or imperfect. Those terms imply that there is something less than perfect but no total absence of desirable qualities but just falling short of “perfect”. Let’s face it, we all fall short of perfect, some of us fall shorterthan others. Everything we have done could have been done better. Jesse Owens was recognized in his lifetime as perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history. He set three world records and tied another, all in less than an hour at the 1935 Big Ten track meet, a feat that has never been equaled and has been called “the greatest 45 minutes ever in sport”. That day was close to perfection for Owens. But it was not perfect. Owen’s 100 meter record of 10.3 seconds held for 20 years until a man named Willie Williams ran the 100 meters in 10.2 seconds. Owen’s long jump record lasted 33 years until Bob Beamon jumped over 28 feet in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

It is interesting that so many people expect our politicians to be perfect. Joe Biden has been criticized for positions he took 20 years ago. Elizabeth Warren has been criticized for claiming some of her heritage is Native American and earning her the moniker “Pocahontas”. Her claim was proven correct through a DNA test although several generations back. Some think it is disqualifying to be a billionaire, or to be young, or to be old, or to be female, or something other than heterosexual. The chief resident in the White House has criticized Mike Bloomberg for being short. The young lack experience but they bring fresh outlooks on issues, they haven’t become jaded yet. The old may lack the energy of the young but with experience comes wisdom. I am 77 years of age. My views on sexual orientation have changed since I was young. My views on gender have changed. I would like to think that I have gained some wisdom with age.

No one is perfect and that includes all politicians. The Democrats have many very good Presidential candidates from which to choose. They all have imperfections. Respect those who have the humility to admit to their imperfections.

Beware of anyone who tells you they have no imperfections, that they are perfect. I’m not aware of any place in the Bible where even Jesus claimed to be perfect though many Christians believe he was and is. In fact I can only think of one person who has claimed perfection, who never apologizes for anything as that would be an admission of imperfection. That person resides in the White House.

I tell my wife I will expect her to be perfect just as soon as I become perfect. She doesn’t expect that to happen anytime soon. At least my spelling in this article is perfect according to spell-check. And may your day today seem perfect to you.

(political notebook)

Dick Gale • President of the Democrats of Hemet – San Jacinto

Rain is viewed differently depending upon where you live or what you are doing. Rain is often viewed as an inconvenience, forcing us to change our plans or interrupting our activities. Too much rain at one time causes flooding or accidents on our roads. It sometimes dampens not only the ground but our emotions. With the single line from his song “Rainy Night in Georgia”, “I believe it’s rainin’ all over the world,” soul legend Brook Benton brings the melancholy spirit of the rain home. Ella Fitzgerald and The Ink Spots sang “Into each life some rain must fall but too much is falling in mine”. Most songs about rain imply someone is feeling blue or lonely. Longfellow’s poem “The Rainy Day” has the famous line “Into each life some rain must fall,” meaning that everyone will experience difficulty and heartache at some point, the “Day” being a metaphor for “Life”. The Carpenters in their “Rainy Days and Mondays” sang “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down”. Some songs ask for it not to rain. One of my favorite songs is “Don’t Rain on my Parade” sung by Barbra Streisand.

But some of us welcome rain and there are songs for us too. “Singin’ in the Rain” by Bing Crosby is a favorite. Californians often view rain as welcome since we don’t get it often. It nourishes our vegetation. It cleans the air and our streets. Sure it sometimes comes at inconvenient times and sometimes it comes too much at one time but for those of us living in Southern California we know how important rain is. Water is life and we get water through rain. Sometimes we even get a rainbow.

I think of rain as a metaphor for life. We all need nourishment. Many children can’t wait to get out of school, out of class but education is nourishment for them, it helps them to grow and mature. There was a time back in the 1960s when California led the nation in quality of education for its children. The downward trend started with Republican Gov. Reagan. California is now in the bottom third of states in almost all educational categories including performance, number of students in each classroom and spending on education. Imagine what would happen to California if the rainfall were cut in half. We have experienced some years like that and it is not pretty. For the education of our children, that is what we have allowed to happen. Educational resources have been significantly cut. When I went school decades ago, almost every school had not just the three R’s but programs like music and art to enrich the whole child. And by the way, science has shown that musical training can change brain structure and function for the better. It can also improve long-term memory and lead to better brain development for those who start at a young age. Just like we need rain for crops to grow, we need to restore adequate funding so our children can grow. We need to provide our children with nutrition not just for their bodies but for their brains. We need to vote for those candidates that support adequate both education funding and nutritional meals for our children. Let our children experience the rainbow of life. Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

From the right….Robin Lowe

We have got to get a handle on our voting situation, not only within our state, but within our country. Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGcfRbtgVak and see the backroom dealings and filth that went on during the 2016 election. Then look at very liberal professor Robert Epstein who has been warning for months that “big tech” can easily steal, rig and/or change the outcome of a national election. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNvgl38TLvI

Then comes articles like this one from “townhall.com” posted October 16, 2018: “Democrats Are Lying, Cheating, And Assaulting Their Way To Election Day In California,” The article recounts how, “In California’s 24th congressional district, it’s a matchup between Justin Fareed and incumbent Democratic Rep. Salud Carbajal. It should be your run-of-the-mill political campaign, which recently turned ugly when a crazy man in Paso Robles assaulted a canvasser for Fareed.” (https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2018/10/16/democrats-are-lying-cheating-and-assaulting-their-way-to-election-day-in-california-n2529086)

Then, there’s this little tidbit from, “The National sentinel.com,” which states plainly, “California-style ballot cheating could be coming to YOUR state next,” which claims, “Immediately following the midterm elections last month, several Republican candidates held comfortable leads in reliably red districts in the otherwise deep blue state of California. But within a few weeks, all of them had lost to their Democratic challenger.” The article goes on to detail the too-eaasily-tainted “ballot harvesting” which many see as a roadmap to fraudulently steal elections. (https://thenationalsentinel.com/2018/12/06/california-style-ballot-cheating-could-be-coming-to-your-state-next/)

Throw in these very slightest tips of a more-than-titanic sized iceberg with the fact that, since it very inception, the “motor voter” debacle has continued to hamper elections, mislead and “mis-Party” voters…and you can see we need to be very very vigilant about our most sacred secular gift and right: our vote. We, the conservatives of the Hemet Valley will continue to impress upon all voters the need for a true, honest overhaul of our voting system in the form of Voter ID laws. The shenanigans that have gone on since at least 2016 have shown that our system is and can be compromised by those who do not care about fair and honest elections. We will allow this no longer. Stand vigilant and contact California Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s elections office at https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/ and demand fairness, honesty and accuracy in our elections. While you’re there, you owe it to yourself to verify your party affiliation as well.

FROM THE RIGHT…We are always leased to hear the conservative voice from Robin Lowe, former mayor of Hemet

The California Congress of Republicans is celebrating its 30th year as a mainstream conservative, grassroots volunteer organization and is an officially chartered part of the California Republican Party (CRP).

I’m so pleased and proud to announce that Tom Wilson was installed as CCR Hemet-San Jacinto chapter President at the installation event at the Elks on December 9.

We were doubly blessed as new San Jacinto mayor Andrew Kotyuk made an appearance. Andrew announced that he will be taking on Chad Mayes who has defected form the Republican Party to “No Political Party (NPP)” in the election for Assemblyman of the 42nd District.

Please see Rusty Strait’s interview with Mayor Kotyuk elsewhere in this issue.

This 42nd district race may be seen as somewhat unimportant, as California is decidedly “blue,” but this is not the case. Liberty, Freedom and the right of people to defend the lives of the most vulnerable among us-unborn babies…the right of people to keep what they work for and to have the right to choose how, when and why that money is spent is at stake in every single local election, every statehouse, and yes, even in the Whitehouse itself.

If you believe that true freedom is freedom from an ever-intrusive Government and that men and women were not born to serve government, but to serve each other, there’s only one party for you, and that’s the Republican Party.

We at the CCR stand ready to serve and inform you. We can be contacted at https://www.ccr-gop.com

THE POLITICAL NOTEBOOK

This the season!!

In my lifetime I have never seen such nonsense! I thought we went through the 60’s, and survived the 70’s and 80’s. You would think a country that came through those periods would learn not to panic. The world did not fall apart when the clock read 12:01 a.m. in 2000! But our elected officials are acting like children.

And when did Hollywood take over the news? Athletes and actors are writing the scripts.

This is the season to count our blessings. In times of political turmoil, we sometimes wonder if there are any blessings to count, but there are.

It’s not just the Federal Government, but State and Local governments as well. The Federal government wastes time and money promoting individual agendas instead of addressing issues which are truly troubling our country.

Our State government continues to collect outrageous taxes in the name of the environment and education, only to waste it on pet projects instead of public need. Unions are investing our retirement funds in foreign countries instead of America! Our State needs to return funds to local governments for the benefit of cities and their residents.

What has happened to us? Why is the average voter not outraged? Does everyone think there are free handouts? Where is the accountability of Government to the people?

The mushrooming situation is neither Democrat nor Republican…it is an across-the-board lethargy that has the Country in its grip. It is time to stand up and be counted…

It’s time to return values to our community, to be grateful for our diversity and treasure our moments with friends and family.

This is the season to count our Blessings and focus our efforts on a new beginning in our community while respecting the past.
