Man Sentenced To Prison For Fatal 2014 San Diego Shooting

Date:

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man who fatally shot another man in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood over a decade ago was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in state prison.

Sonny Estrada, 52, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the May 11, 2014, shooting death of 42-year-old Daniel Coriz, who was shot around midnight outside a Koe Street residence, according to San Diego police.

Police said two men wearing black bandannas covering their faces approached the victim and one of the suspects opened fire. Coriz died at the scene.

Last year, Estrada was already in county jail for unrelated reasons when he was arrested on suspicion of Coriz’s murder.

Police did not disclose whether the second suspect was still being sought.

While a motive was also not disclosed, family members attending Estrada’s sentencing hearing said the men knew each other and were at one time friends.
