"Why do people put their parents in nursing homes when there are so many problems in them?" It was not the first time my mom had asked this question. This time, it came after yet another report of an elderly woman's death in a nursing home. The story ended with the largest jury verdict payout related to Florida assisted living homes, with the total reaching $12.5 million.

This month, VA’s National Cemetery Administration awarded $51.3 million in grants to Arizona, Arkansas, Nebraska, New York, Louisiana, Texas, and Virginia for the establishment, expansion, and improvement of state Veterans cemeteries. These grants will help these states deliver timely and accessible burial and memorial services to Veterans.

With case rates already ticking up this fall, people most at risk from the coronavirus and its complications — including people of color and the elderly — may not receive the latest boosters, some epidemiologists fear. 

Starting Oct. 1, Veterans will have access to maternity care coordinators from the beginning of their pregnancy to 12 months post-partum — an expansion from the previous end-date of 8 weeks post-partum.
