California appears poised to require employers to take measures meant to prevent and respond to workplace violence after the state Legislature passed sweeping Senate Bill 553 on Tuesday.
Two and a half years ago, Gavin Newsom put his foot in his mouth. On Sunday, California’s governor extricated it, saying anyone chosen to fill a vacant U.S. Senate seat would be a placeholder until voters have their say in 2024.

Ron DeSantis, the Republican presidential candidate from Florida, to debate on Fox News. He has assembled a small staff of political advisers and created a political action committee to distribute $10 million to Democratic causes and candidates.
Joe Biden is the proverbial gold mine. Someone is going to give into the all-too-obvious temptation and make a veritable fortune very soon. Doing so will pretty much permanently ruin that individual’s prospects as a major operative in future Democrat doings, but someone, somewhere, is going to grab that overly tempting low-hanging fruit.
While a federal judge on Wednesday declared illegal a revised version of a federal policy that prevents the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, he declined to order an immediate end to the program and the protections it offers to recipients.
