California to require booster shots for healthcare workers

California will require health care workers to get a booster shot of the coronavirus vaccine, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday, pledging to make sure hospitals are prepared as a new version of the disease begins to spread throughout the state.

24,000 healthcare workers in California authorize strike action by 96 percent

On Monday, 24,000 Kaiser Permanente nurses and health care workers in the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) voted by 96 percent to authorize strike action. Voter turnout was high at 86 percent, an indication of the determination of health care professionals to fight against dangerously low staffing ratios.

Mason Drew Kohler, 31, was booked on felony murder, hit-and-run death, and DUI charges, according to the Riverside County jail roster, which lists a Hemet PD arrest at Palm Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. Hemet police say two pedestrians on an electric scooter were struck there about 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22; one was pronounced dead. Police have not named the driver, and the decedent's identity remains withheld.
