Taking action to support teens and young adults experiencing homelessness, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced $38 million in new grants for community-based organizations across the state through the Homeless Youth Emergency Services and Housing Program. The grants will allow local service providers to deliver temporary housing and supportive services for youth experiencing homelessness.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced his nomination of Fourth District Court of Appeal Justice Patricia Guerrero to serve as an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court. A widely respected jurist with extensive experience as an appellate justice, trial court judge, partner at a major law firm and Assistant U.S. Attorney, Justice Guerrero is a first-generation Californian who would be the first Latina to serve on the California Supreme Court.

Wayyy back in my high school days, we were required to take Spanish. I have to admit being bilingual was apparently not my thing, but this I do remember; whenever our class was getting too loud for our teacher, she would yell out, “Escutcheon por favor! Escuchen!” Translated - listen please. Listen. It seems to be my one big takeaway from two years of Spanish. I even used that line on my own children when they were young.

At the most recent San Jacinto Unified School District’s board meeting on Feb. 10, the Board of Trustees and Superintendent David Pyle recognized the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians Tribal Council, Soboba Foundation, Tribal Executive Officer Steven Estrada and Sponsorship Coordinator Andrew Vallejos for their generous support of students, families, staff and community.

Mt. San Jacinto College Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Schultz addressed CalRTA Division 33 members at their February 8th general meeting and shared the extensive growth and improvements made since 2001 when he first joined MSJC as a Vice President of Student Services. Schultz now oversees approximately 24,000 students at four MSCJ campuses in its 1,700-square-mile district, including the San Jacinto, Menifee Valley, San Gorgonio Pass, and Temecula Valley campuses. In the fall of 2022, a new Beaumont Middle College High School campus is due to launch under a partnership between Mt. San Jacinto College and the Beaumont Unified School District.
