The House has a new speaker, and now attention returns to whether a government “shutdown” can be averted before November 17. If only the American people could place the federal government in lockdown just as the unaccountable bureaucracy did to them during COVID’s oppressive hysteria.

Things have gone very well for the Liberty High football team this season. The Bison are one overtime loss away from a perfect season, have outscored the opposition 393-173, and won the league championship by knocking off defending champion San Jacinto.

Over the summer, when a Southern California school board opposed a new state-determined social studies curriculum that included a bio of slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a threatening tweet calling out the school board president by name.

COACHELLA VALLEY REPERTORY presents the WORLD PREMIERE of SUMMER SESSION WITH THE BONES BRIGADE, a dramatic original work by playwright KIRBY FIELDS. The work was selected for production from among the entries in CVRep’s first ORIGINS: NEW WORKS PROGRAM. SUMMER SESSION WITH THE BONES BRIGADE is set in the American Midwest in the summer of 1988.

I began my teaching career in January of 1978, having previously worked for 12 years in a variety of jobs in which I contributed to Social Security. While teaching, I also worked odd jobs to make up for the rather low pay and for those summer “vacations” in which we, as teachers, were not paid.
