4 Southern California wildfires that burned nearly 23,000 acres nearing full containment

Date:

More than a week after several major wildfires erupted across Southern California, firefighters are moving closer to fully containing four blazes that together scorched nearly 23,000 acres.

The Santa Rosa Island, Sandy, Bain and Verona fires have kept crews working across the region as hot, dry conditions fueled rapid fire growth in some areas. Officials said firefighters have made significant progress in strengthening containment lines and reducing the threat of further spread.

While the fires are now nearing full containment, crews are expected to remain in the affected areas to monitor hot spots, reinforce fire lines and address any flare-ups that could develop as conditions change.
