On Friday, October 21, 2022, at 11:30 PM, the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force served a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue in Beaumont. During the service of the search warrant, Gang Task Force Officers located a loaded 9mm semi-auto handgun. The gun was absent any identifying serial numbers. Gang Task Force Officers arrested convicted felon and documented criminal street gang member, Adrian Cortez, a 19-year-old resident of Beaumont. Cortez was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Non-Serialized Firearm, and Violation of Probation. Cortez was subsequently booked at the John Benoit Detention Center.
