Lake Elsinore’s Launch Pointe Recreation Destination & RV Park is struggling to meet revenue expectations, so the city is proposing to bring on a venue management company to maximize the waterfront’s potential as a top destination for weddings and other large events.

During Tuesday night’s Lake Elsinore City Council meeting, the council will consider a license agreement with Southern California-based Common Sense Events, Inc. “to manage a variety of wedding and event activities” at Launch Pointe, 32040 Riverside Dr., according to city documents.

“Common Sense Events has a successful history of taking underutilized properties and turning them into profit-producing locations,” according to the documents. “With venues in Ramona, Temecula, Vista, and Escondido, Common Sense Events can assist Launch Pointe with tapping into new markets. Commons Sense’s model of providing best-in-class service, a trained on-site team for all events, and providing a focused marketing strategy should result in a significant increase in Launch Pointe’s revenue generation as an event venue.”

According to the proposed license agreement that would be in effect through March 31, 2026, Common Sense Events will pay a guaranteed minimum annual license fee to the city of $12,000 the first year, and $20,000 in the second year. The subsequent year minimum will be based on the Riverside area’s consumer price index.

In addition to the guaranteed minimum, a gross revenue share generated through bookings would be in effect. Initial estimates show Launch Pointe generating $300,000 in net revenue under the agreement, according to city documents.

No negative fiscal impact is anticipated for the city, the documents state.

In spring 2020, the city’s Community Services team took over Launch Pointe operations but now outside help is sought.

“While many aspects of this management have been successful, challenges pertaining to the operation and management of this world-class venue have not met revenue expectations,” according to city documents. “The Launch Pointe team began brainstorming ideas in late Summer 2022 on how to improve profitability of this signature City amenity, including exploring partnering with an established venue management company to maximize exposure, utilize industry-standard marketing tools, and placing specialized agents that will enhance the operations of the venue.”

Tuesday’s 6 p.m. Lake Elsinore City Council meeting takes place at the Cultural Center, 183 N. Main Street.
