Another month and 2023 rolls right along.
The National Headquarters for the American Legion is planning to video an experience at American Legion Post 34 for a first-of-a-kind “Be the One” event on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 6 PM and Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 11 AM. Be the One events are geared to build public support and camaraderie for veterans, veteran families and the public at large as a way to bring awareness to the issue of veteran suicide and the stigma of mental health.
Riverside County officials are seeking qualified veterans to fill six openings at a local housing community. The large two and three-bedroom units are available at Mission Heritage Plaza in Riverside and have specifically been set aside for veterans. The units were initially held for dishonorably discharged veterans, but County officials said they had not located anyone that fits that criteria. The vacancies are now open to any veteran family.
Three of the units are available now for veteran families who have joined the Section 8 waiting list through the Housing Authority of Riverside County.
The other three units are open for veterans who have received referrals from Riverside County’s Coordinated Entry System.
Eligibility is restricted to veterans making between 30 and 45 percent of the area median income. Mission Heritage Plaza is located at 3933 Mission Avenue in Riverside and the facility offers the following amenities to residents:

2. Centrally Located Elevators
3. Free Common Area Wi-Fi
4. Courtyard Area with BBQ
5. Playground
6. Community Room
7. 24/7 Security Monitoring
8. Pet friendly
9. Free bus pass for each household
Interested families can apply online; income and qualifications will be verified.
Local Legion Post 53 will host a fishing tournament for kids ages 6 to 15 on April 15 at Golden Era Productions. It is a free event. Bring fishing gear and bait. Breakfast will be served. The Legion is asking for gift baskets for the occasion. More details will be furnished later in the month.
The Post returned to its Friday night dinners last week. The food was great, but attendance was less than expected. The cold and wet weather probably was the reason., Also, being the first night as the dinners resumed, it will take a little time. The Post expects better attendance as word gets out.
