Fatal Traffic Collision

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Shaun Griffith

File # T230630069

Details:

On March 4, 2023, at about 6:06pm, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to Calliandra St., east of Alamo Dr. reference a traffic collision. Upon arrival, deputies determined a gray Nissan Frontier traveling east on Calliandra St. collided with a female pedestrian walking along Calliandra St. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station Traffic Team responded to the location of the collision and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the Nissan was traveling eastbound on Calliandra St. at an unknown speed when it collided with the pedestrian.  The driver, identified as Cameron Curtis, 31 of Palm Desert, was detained at the scene and later booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for homicide. Intoxication appears to have played a role in this collision.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Calliandra St. between Alamo Dr. and Heliotrope Dr.
