Arsonist Sets Self Ablaze, Flees RivCo Home: Police

Date:

CORONA, CA — Police and Fire Department investigators in Corona are seeking a suspect who may have suffered severe burns after setting the front yard of a Wakefield Avenue home ablaze.

Early Tuesday morning, video from a home in the 900 block of Wakefield Avenue shows a person igniting a vehicle on fire. Arriving firefighters found the suspect had fled, and the vehicle was burning in the front yard.

“The fire destroyed the vehicle and caused moderate damage to the home,” the department said.

Video from the resident’s Ring camera captured a Caucasian or Hispanic man who intentionally set fire to the vehicle and subsequently set himself on fire amid an explosion, a fire department spokesperson said.

“The suspect is believed to be in his 30s, between 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build and shoulder length, light-colored hair.

He fled the scene in a white Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck with tinted windows and light-colored rims.
