On Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 1:44 p.m., a smash-n-grab robbery occurred at a local jewelry store in the 1600 block of Perris Boulevard in the city of Perris. Seven masked suspects entered the location, pepper-sprayed the security guard, and broke the glass on several display cases, stealing $100,000 in jewelry.
During the course of this investigation, a suspect was identified as Justin Vanderford, 41 years of Jurupa Valley. On January 4, 2024, Vanderford was detained by deputies from the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team, near the intersection of Lakeview Street and Pedley Road Vanderford was arrested for murder, and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

On December 10, 2023, Lake Mathews Station deputies responded to the Lake Hills area of Riverside County reference a series of vehicle burglaries. During the burglaries, numerous vehicles were broken in to resulting in the theft of various items. The Lake Mathews Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation.
