During the COVID-19 pandemic months of March 2020 to September 2020, U.S. alcohol retail store sales increased compared to usual trends while food services and drinking places sales decreased markedly during the same period, according to a new study at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. These results indicate an increase in home drinking in the U.S. The findings are published online in the journal Alcohol.

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, approximately 1:05 am, deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Robert Presley Detention Center, conducted a routine security check of a housing unit. During the security check, jail staff discovered an unresponsive male inmate. Custody staff along with medical staff immediately responded to the cell and began administering life-saving measures. Cal Fire and American Medical Response (AMR) responded and subsequently after further life-saving measures, the inmate was pronounced deceased on scene.
On Sunday, August 22, 2021, about 4:26 A.M., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Clay Street and General Drive, in the city of Jurupa Valley. Deputies and Cal Fire arrived on-scene and located a single vehicle that had struck a curb and two traffic signal poles, ejecting the driver. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cal Fire paramedics.
