Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians

Teachers and staff at Noli Indian School on the Soboba Indian Reservation recently took the opportunity to honor residential and boarding school survivors and remember those who never returned home by observing Orange Shirt Day. Also called National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or National Day of Remembrance, it is observed yearly on September 30 in Canada and the United States.

In an effort to assess climate adaptation on the Soboba Indian Reservation, Soboba Tribal Environmental Department Director Christian Aceves and his team hosted a Talking Circle on Sept. 14. In partnership with SoCalGas, a presentation about the past, present and future challenges was provided to Tribal and community members and Soboba employees.

Everyone is encouraged to don their lederhosen and get ready to polka at Soboba Casino Resort’s third annual Oktoberfest and Beer Garden on Oct. 7 and 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. The 200-plus year tradition of the Tapping of the Keg will be just one of the many fun activities that will include contests and games for guests.

After staff at the St. Jude Mission School on the Soboba Indian Reservation noticed an influx of snakes during the recent warm weather, a lesson on snakes was arranged. Science teacher Jay Dagostino from the nearby Noli Indian School was invited, along with his two pet snakes, to give a presentation on safety and awareness.

Teachers at the Soboba Tribal Preschool began learning about the youngsters in their classrooms when the new school year began on Aug. 3. But they seized the opportunity to learn even more when family members were invited to a back-to-school night on Aug. 25. Visitors toured the campus, listened to presentations about what to expect on a daily and weekly basis, checked out a Chromebook for their child’s use and were treated to pizza and snacks.
