The Southwestern U.S. is bracing for another week of blistering temperatures, with forecasters on Monday extending an excessive heat warning through the weekend for Arizona’s most populated area, and alerting residents in parts of Nevada and New Mexico to stay indoors.

Health departments have a historic opportunity to bolster their workforce due to new funding. Yet they often do not have accurate or updated job descriptions or short, attention-grabbing job postings, to use as marketing tools for recruitment.

The Cabaret Lounge at Soboba Casino Resort has been transformed into a playing field for cornhole players of all skill levels. The Soboba Cornhole Summer Series from July 12 through Aug. 16 will pit players, 21 years of age and older, against each other with 100% payouts each week.

Summer vacation may have started, but three local teachers are already thinking about next year’s students. Randomly selected from over 230 applicants at CalRTA’s recent June luncheon meeting, local educators Holly Fratt, Nancy Excell, and Baylee Gerges each received a $100 Teacher Grant from the California Retired Teachers Association (CalRTA) Division 33 to be spent on classroom needs.
