On Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 7:28 a.m., the shooting victim, a 40-year-old male resident of Moreno Valley, succumbed to his injuries sustained from the earlier incident. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was notified and assumed control of the investigation. The victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification.
On Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 8:08 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Station responded to a report of a gunshot victim inside a vehicle in the 22800 block of Allies Place in Moreno Valley.
In December of 2023, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Gang Intelligence Unit, and Corrections Central Investigations Unit began an investigation into inmates and a member of the public smuggling narcotics into the Cois Byrd Detention Center. During the course of the investigation, two suspects were identified who coordinated smuggling fentanyl and methamphetamine into the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Investigations Bureau assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Christian Chavez, a 36-year-old resident of San Pedro.
On Saturday, January 20, 2024, agents of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), along with Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, cited one clerk for selling alcohol to minors in the city of Canyon Lake at a business within the 24000 block of Canyon Lake Drive.
