On February 12, 2022, about 2:58 AM deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, were driving west on Sunnymead Boulevard, east of Heacock Street, when they saw a pedestrian lying unresponsive in the roadway. The subject had injuries which indicated he had been struck by a vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing the street when an unknown vehicle traveling west on Sunnymead Boulevard struck him and then fled the scene.

The identity of the pedestrian will not be released pending the investigation’s full completion. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Sunnymead Boulevard, between Heacock Street and Back Way, in order to process the scene and collect evidence.
