On June 3, 2022, about 3:27 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision near the intersection of Lasselle Street and Copper Cove Lane, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were two vehicles involved, a white Toyota Sienna and a red Ford Escape. The driver of the Toyota was unresponsive. Cal Fire personnel were on scene and administering life saving measures to the driver. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local area hospital. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.
The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Information obtained during the investigation revealed the Toyota Sienna was traveling southbound on Lasselle Street, when the driver veered into the northbound lanes, subsequently colliding with the Ford Escape as it traveled northbound. There were no passengers inside of either vehicle at the time of the collision, and no other vehicles were identified as being involved.
The identities of the involved parties, including the deceased, will not be released pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin. At this time, alcohol and/or drugs are not considered a factor in the collision. Due to the collision investigation and the need for extensive cleanup, a temporary closure of Lasselle Street, between Alessandro Boulevard and Brodiaea Avenue, was required.
