Fatal Traffic Collision

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Don Olson

File# T232620053

Details:

On September 19, 2023, about 2:47 pm, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a major injury traffic collision on Hovley Lane East and Washington Street. Upon arrival, deputies observed members of the public rendering aid to both drivers before being relieved by paramedics. Connie Ramirez, 72 years, of Palm Desert, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Palm Desert Traffic Team was called to the scene and assumed the investigation. Based on the preliminary evidence, it appears Ramirez was attempting to turn south into the parking lot when she was struck by the vehicle that was traveling eastbound. Alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Hovley Lane East. The roadway has since been reopened.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Broughton at the Palm Desert Sheriff Station at 760-836-1600.
