Jewelry Store Thief Caught

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Matthew Koser

File # T222290083

Details:

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, about 12:33 PM, deputies from the Palm Desert Station responded to reports of a commercial burglary in the 72000 block of Hwy-111, Palm Desert. Deputies arrived and learned that the suspect entered the jewelry store acting as if he was interested in buying jewelry. As the employee provided items for the suspect to inspect, the suspect suddenly grabbed the items and ran out of the store. A store employee followed the suspect and obtained a vehicle description as the suspect fled the location. The Riverside Sheriff’s helicopter heard the broadcast of the suspect vehicle description and began searching the freeway. The helicopter located a vehicle matching the suspect description in the Banning area. Deputies nearby responded and successfully apprehended the suspect. The stolen jewelry, valued at approximately $45,000, was found on the suspect and recovered. The suspect was identified as Jason Warren, a 28-year-old resident of Los Angeles. Warren was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for commercial burglary.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Corporal Stuhrmann of the Palm Desert Station at (760) 836-1600.
