A Southern California woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter after her 8-year-old daughter was killed in a collision that injured several other people including three children, authorities said.

The crash occurred Sunday evening along State Route 79 near Temecula in Riverside County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 33-year-old woman was driving a Honda Pilot in westbound lanes when the SUV drifted right onto the dirt shoulder, the CHP said in a statement.

She tried to pull the SUV back onto the road but over-corrected and swerved into the opposing lane, colliding with a Chevy Silverado heading east, the statement said.

Investigators said the 8-year-old girl in the Honda was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Her mother and two other children in the Honda, a 12-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, were hospitalized with major injuries, officials said.

Three people in the Silverado — a 46-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl — were also hospitalized.

The driver of the Honda faces multiple charges including felony DUI, child endangerment and gross vehicular manslaughter, according to the CHP.
