On August 14, 2023, at about 1:51 a.m., deputies from the Thermal Sheriff Station were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the parking lot in the 78900 block of Highway 111, La Quinta. Upon arrival, deputies found a sixteen-year-old male juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound, inside a vehicle. The juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene was secured, and an investigation began. The Central Homicide Unit later responded and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the victim was shot inside the vehicle, by a seventeen-year old male juvenile, who has been identified. The identities of the victim and suspect will not be released.
This investigation is currently on-going and no further information will be released at this time.
