California Gov. Newsom is losing support among state voters. For the first time since taking office in 2019, more California voters disapprove of the job he is doing (49%) than approve (44%), according to a new poll from the University of California-Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies released Tuesday.

Progress has never been achieved by pressing pause. In June, the Little Hoover Commission suggested that California’s short-lived pollutant reduction law, Senate Bill 1383, a first-of-its-kind legislation aimed at reducing organic waste in landfills, should be paused. However, the commission’s recommendation is shortsighted.

California has won federal approval to enact a first-in-the-nation rule requiring railroads in the state to reduce, and eventually eliminate, harmful air pollution from their locomotives.
