Homicide
During the course of this investigation, a suspect was identified as Fredy Morales, 21 years of Perris. On August 30, 2023, arrest charges of murder were added to Morales, who was in custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center, on unrelated charges.

On Sunday, August 27, 2023, deputies from the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility were alerted to an unresponsive male inmate in a housing unit. Deputies and jail medical personnel immediately administered life-saving measures.

On August 26th, 2023, at 5:09 p.m., the Sheriff’s Colorado River Station deputies responded to the 13000 block of Mesa Drive in the unincorporated community of Mesa Verde in response to a robbery.
