Fatal Traffic Collision

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Chad Craig

File # MV221490064

Details:

On May 29, 2022, about 9:37 AM deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision on Perris Boulevard, between Heacock Street and Canyon Vista Road, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find a BMW 3 Series sedan fully engulfed in flames. CalFire arrived on-scene and extinguished the fire. The driver suffered severe, life threatening injuries, and was declared deceased at the scene. The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the BMW was traveling southbound on Perris Blvd at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, the BMW veered to the right, struck a curb, and launched onto the dirt embankment where it continued for approximately 200 feet before striking a tree.

The identity of the deceased will not be released pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin.  At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are considered a factor in the collision. A temporary closure of Perris Boulevard, between Heacock Street and Canyon Vista Road, was required in order to process the scene and collect evidence.
