Fatal Traffic Collision

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Shaun Griffith

File# T233190108

Details:

On November 15, 2023, at 9:46 pm, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Portola Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. Upon arrival, deputies observed two vehicles in the intersection that had been involved in a traffic collision. Paramedics arrived and transported one driver to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and suffered only minor injuries.

The Palm Desert Traffic Team was called to the scene and assumed the investigation. Based on the preliminary evidence, it appears one vehicle had a green light and had just entered the intersection traveling north when their vehicle was struck by the second vehicle that was traveling eastbound. It is unknown if alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in this collision. The name of the decedent is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of the intersection of Portola Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. The roadway has since been reopened.

This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Shields at the Palm Desert Sheriff Station at 760-836-1600.
